It has been a busy week at the farm so I will try to make this cover all that has happened as well as to not ramble on forever. On Monday night, we went and bought two horses about an hour from home. One was an older Quarter Horse mare and the other was a 6 year old Tennessee Walker. Both had been well taken care of, but the owners did not have land for the summer season and they did not have grass to graze in so they put them up for sale. I really wasn’t thrilled with getting them, but my husband thought that a friend of his was interested in the Tennessee Walker and we knew someone who would take the older horse so we bought them.
On Tuesday, my husband sold both of the horses we had bought on Monday as well as the Hal flinger stud that we had. The Tennessee Walker went to the friend that my husband had said would take it and the older horse went to some friends down the road that just want them for the kids to play with really. She won’t have to do any riding or anything strenuous. The Hal flinger was a really sweet horse, but we just did not really need him. I was glad to see that all of them went to good homes.
On Wednesday, I froze 5 pounds of fresh green beans that my daughter had gotten me on Tuesday. The Kroger near us had them for 77 cents per pound and she knew I would want some. I am sure that we will have plenty this summer, but I am glad that she bought them. I had a couple of calls of people wanting horses from an ad that we had on Craigslist. One of the ladies may be interested in Prince Charming. I am really not interested in selling him, but he will go to a therapy center for handicapped children so I know that he will be cared for.
Thursday is always a busy day for us. Our local library hosts a class for home schoolers and we always try to attend it. I get a chance to visit with other ladies and friends of mine and it gives my daughter a chance to be with several of her friends. It is a nice break for us from the monotony of the farm work and school work.
Thursday also brought a challenge for me as when I went to the other farm where we keep some of our horses, I found the electric fence at the new pasture had been torn down by something and I had to fix it without the help of my husband. I had to call to ask where the nails for it were, but I fixed it. Thursday night was a class reunion planning meeting and so I actually got to spend some time away from the regular routine and I didn’t have to cook dinner.
I know that today brings another busy day as I need to check on my flea market booth and I need to make plans for my daughter to have a visitor, plus we have a 4-H workshop to attend and we have a busy weekend so I know there is not much time to rest. I am sure hoping that the weather holds out and it is not raining this weekend. I am ready for some warm and sunny days.
That is a look at the week that I have had and I am sure that next week will bring even more challenges. Until then “y’all come back now” to another visit to the funny farm!
