I am relatively new to the stealth genre. I don’t know why I never tried them before, as I love stealth, I guess I just never found anything that I wanted to play. Then, one day I had a couple of my friends over so we could pull an all nighter and attempt to finish the script to our movie, and so we decided to rent this game just for something to do if we ran into any blocks, like we nearly always do. About halfway through the night, we ran into such a block, and so decided to put the game into my xbox 360. This was a mistake, as we hardly got anything done that night. But enough with explaining why, you came here for a review, and so I will deliver one.
When the game came on we ran into a flashy menu with three gameplay options, Single Player, “Deniable Ops”, and Co-op. As I had two controlers, we decided to try out co-op mode. We started it up and were met with decent graphics, not Mass Effect 2 graphics, but not Lego Star Wars graphics either. We couldn’t pay much attention to the dialogue as we would get shot at everytime someone would start talking, and when you’re in the shadows the screen goes black and white, so it’s difficult to read subtitles. We made our way through the level, which was great, up until the final part, where you are trapped in a building full of cop’s and can’t kill any of them, so you have to incapacitate them. Unfortunatly, the game doesnt describe how to do this, so we ended up having to guess… luckily I ended up findig out, so we made it through quickly.
Eventually they left, so I decided to play through single player. It opens up on you in the white house with a gun to your head, which spoils what the last level will be. This is where I have to take creativity points away. How many time have you had to run through the white house? Anyways, I played through the campaign, which was great, despite the spoiler. Scratch that, it was great for awhile, then about two levels in they thrust you into Iraq… in the past.. which was odd, but okay, I can deal with it. After that (thankfully) brief episode, you get thrown into an airbasse, which forces you to get discovered numerous times, which kinda ruins the stealth aspecs of it, but whatever…
I eventually completed the campaign and moved onto “deniable ops”, which was very much like the spec ops of CoD: MW2. You select between a few game types, a level, and a load-out. I forgot to mention the load-outs. There really is no need to go with pretty much any other weapon in this game besides the five-seven and a weapon of your choice.. I made it through most levels with this weapon alone and had no problems. Anyways, you have your classic defend ths location for ___ number of waves, you get through the level undetected, and your get through the level undetected pro… thing… wait, those arn’t classic? Seemed like they’ve been used quite a few times to me. I quickly got bored of these, so I returned to single player, waited a day, then returned the game.
Now, I know this may seem like a review of me saying this game overall sucked, but you should read between the lines. I have secretly been upping this game the whole time, i.e not mass effect 2 grapics, but not Lego Star Wars graphics. personally, I loved the game, and if it wasn’t for the fact I don’t have the money for it I would’ve bought it.
