Venturing into the social media marketing atmosphere is inevitable in this Internet-crazed society. Contrary to popular belief, social media marketing should not replace your current strategies-in most cases-it should supplement them. It’s best to wade in the shallow waters of social media marketing to learn the game before venturing off into the deep end. Here are a few tips to get you started.
Nearly all reputable social media sites allow you to select a personalized profile name. Use this to your advantage by selecting your business name, something close or a term that reflects the products or services that you offer.
Help make your brand a “trending topic” with hashtags. While your hashtag can be anything you want, including your brand name, you’ll likely have better luck using a search term that indirectly references your entity. Consumers are marketing-savvy, so don’t overdo it with the brand name hashtag. Besides, your brand name will already be your profile name, no need in mentioning the same term twice, especially when you only have 140 characters in some cases.
Become a Resource
Keep your customers, clients, and fans abreast of news they can use. It’s great to post information on promotional efforts, events and more, but become a news source. For example, if you are an accounting firm, releasing an article on “Ten Tax Saving Tips” would be ideal for your potential and established clients around tax time. If you don’t have the desire to write, link to relevant articles written by other authors.
Find Your Voice
Expand your brand in the social media-sphere by visiting the blogs and Twitter pages of other industry leaders. Once there, be sure to comment on subjects that fall under your area of expertise. Don’t overdo it, of course, and infringe on the blogger’s territory. And be sure to link back to notable posts on your own blog, Facebook, Twitter or other social media pages.
The list goes on-and-on. Social media marketing continues to evolve and the ideas presented are just the tip of the iceberg. How do you use social media marketing to expand your brand?
