Former Dancing with the Stars contestant Mario Lopez plugged his new cookbook Extra Lean on the Rachael Ray Show Tuesday. The cast member of Saved by the Bell, who played the “pretty boy jock” A.C. Slater, discussed a number of various issues besides his book, including becoming a father soon and even his favorite “cheat” foods. The Rachael Ray Show even took a few questions from the studio audience for Mario Lopez. His segment lasted about 11 minutes.
Mario Lopez, in Discussing Extra Lean, Emphasized Three Points of Successful Eating on The Rachael Ray Show
This new book is his third one as he’s written two previous ones: a fitness book (Mario Lopez’s Knockout Fitness) and a children’s book (Mud Tacos). The celebrity stressed three points to viewers in order to be a successful eater while discussing his cookbook Extra Lean. He said that food consumption needs to be a “healthy balance of carbs, fat, and protein at every meal; eating frequently throughout the day; and controlling your portions.” He emphasized exercise but criticized many diets that discourage carbs, remarking, “Carbs are the body’s preferred source of energy.” In discussing portion control, Mario Lopez talked about the “It’s a Small World” ride at Disneyland where the boats were sinking to the bottom because people are heavier due to eating bigger portions of food compared to the time of Leave It To Beaver. Rachael Ray and the author of Extra Lean even discussed coming up with a cookbook for dogs, since both are concerned about their dogs’ dietary needs.
Mario Lopez is an expectant father, but he said on the Rachael Ray Show that he doesn’t know the sex of the baby, quipping “it’s more exciting” this way to wait until the birth to find out. The studio audience was able to ask Mario Lopez three questions, including what reality show he’d like to do in the future. He responded, “If they let me, I’d do Dancing (with the Stars) again.” But the actor also said that he’s hooked on Real Housewives of New Jersey and wouldn’t mind doing that show also. Lopez also briefly mentioned his recent reunion with some of the cast members of Saved by the Bell and confessed that he likes to eat melted M&M’s with popcorn, his favorite “cheat” food.
At the end of the Rachael Ray Show segment, the host presented the author of Extra Lean with fitness wear for both a baby boy and girl.
