Whether going to the park, the mall or an amusement park, on-the-go snacks are an important necessity for growing babies and toddlers. Having easy, accessible snacks helps prevent messes and meltdowns. If you eat organic food or are thinking about doing so, here are five great organic snacks for toddlers.
Revolution Foods Grammy Sammy
These are like little graham cracker sandwiches with yogurt inside. They come in cinnamon graham & vanilla yogurt, honey graham & strawberry yogurt, blueberries & oatmeal, strawberry jam & peanut butter and apple cinnamon & oatmeal. In addition, they are made of whole grains and organic yogurt filling. Most flavors have two grams of protein and two grams of dietary fiber. Note that they are produced in a facility that processes peanuts, tree nuts, soy and eggs. A package of five costs $4.99 at diapers.com.
Yo Kids Squeezers
These yummy, organic lowfat yogurts come in handy squeezable tubes. They come in strawberry and cherry & berry. While these are perishable, you can toss them in the freezer. This way, they stay cool for longer or kids can eat them like a frozen treat. Some of the nutritional highlights include (for the strawberry version), 125 mg of potassium, 2 grams of protein and 10 % daily value of both calcium and vitamin D. Depending on the store, these cost around $3.00 for a package of eight.
Plum Tots Organic Mish Mash
These individual 100% fruit purees contain no added sugars, flavors or colors. The come in a squeezable pouch and are 100 percent organic. Even better, they come in BPA free packaging. There’s a banana mish mash that has bananas, acerola berries, apples and pears. This variety has 50% of a daily allowance of vitamin C and 95 mg of potassium. The peach flavor contains peaches, apples, pears, apricots and acerola fruit. It also comes in strawberry. I really like these because they contain several different types of fruit. These can be found at Whole Foods, diapers.com or luckyvitamin.com. They cost over a dollar and some change per unit.
Annie’s makes a line of organic crackers that are delicious. While some of these crackers only use organic wheat flour, others are completely organic. There are the organic cheddar bunnies, organic classic crackers, bunny grahams and our family’s favorite, the white cheddar bunnies. They are shaped in various bunny shapes that make it fun for the kids. See more of Annie’s products at annies.com. These also come in individual snack packs for parties, lunches or moms in a hurry.
Happy Baby Organic Yogurt Snacks
These little yogurt snacks will melt in your toddler’s mouth. Choose from mixed berry, strawberry and banana mango. Along with being organic, these do not have any preservatives and they have pre and probiotics for digestive health. In addition, they are recommended by Dr. Sears. They cost $3.29 for a one-ounce bag at diapers.com. They are a little expensive but I save them for special outings like the zoo.
Typically, I don’t use these snacks for everyday use. However, they are great for travel. And while they are more expensive then PB and Jelly, it’s a lot cheaper then buying food at an amusement park.
