The success from movies made from video games has been limited at best. From the more recent Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time to the older Laura Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, producers have attempted to expand upon already successful franchises. Of course, there are still plenty of video games that have not been made into movies. Some video games would not work as movies, but others could be a great success. These are five franchises that could do great in theaters.
#5: The Battlefield: Bad Company Franchise:
This franchise is full of cinema potential. From the funny one-liners of the soldiers to the explosive action sequences, fan boys would squeal if this film went to the big screen.
#4: The Knights of the Old Republic Franchise:
Hopefully, if this movie is created, it will not be butchered like the last three Star Wars films. It is a well-known fact that Lucas’s last three films were not acceptable. Both Knights of the Old Republic episodes are impressive and keep you on the edge of your seat. I would love to see a cinematic version of these games, mainly because I’m not ready for the Star Wars franchise to die.
#3: The Mass Effect Franchise:
This franchise has great potential to be successful in theaters. The story is incredible, the characters are complex, and the possibilities are endless with such a large universe. If this movie doesn’t get a big name producer, I have a feeling it will be a box-office bomb.
#2: The Gear of War Franchise:
This one is pretty obvious. Gears of War has the most bodacious main character in video game history. Marcus Fenix does not take anything from anybody. The movie is apparently already in production, but the release date needs to get here now.
#1: The Halo Franchise:
Even though it has already been attempted, I still have faith in this venture. I need to see Samuel L. Jackson play the sergeant before I die. I feel like I will be able to rest in peace the day that happens. In terms of Master Chief, it doesn’t really matter. I only care about who plays the sergeant. Obviously, the story is so expansive and can take place in any the franchise’s games. Obviously, Combat Evolved is the most likely to be made into a movie because it has the best story of the original three. I just hope that if Hollywood chooses a story, they don’t pick Halo 2. The story was extremely lackluster and unoriginal.
These are the top five on my list. In reality, there are tons of video games that have potential to make it on the big screen. A couple years from now, this list will probably be totally different, but for now, I can hope that some of these will make it into Hollywood before I die.
