Most of us have a large container of Vaseline petroleum jelly hanging out in our bathroom and use it for a variety of health or beauty issues. But softening rough skin, soothing irritated skin and so forth are not the only things Vaseline petroleum jelly is good for, try the inexpensive, clear jelly in one of these five ways.
Protect Against Color Splashes With A Thin Layer Of Vaseline
Before coloring hair or painting fingernails, apply a thin layer of Vaseline petroleum jelly around the hairline or nails. Any splashes or drips of hair dye or nail polish that lands on the skin will wipe away with a tissue when it lands on the petroleum jelly barrier.
Remove Gum From Hair With Vaseline
If you have a child, sooner or later the child is going to get gum in their hair. Sometimes it even happens to adults who fall asleep with gum in their mouth. Remove the sticky gum from hair with a liberal amount of Vaseline petroleum jelly. Apply the petroleum jelly to the wad of gum and surrounding hair. Massage the petroleum jelly into hair and the wad of gum should slip right out.
Wipe excess Vaseline out of hair with paper towel, then apply shampoo to the hair coated with the Vaseline without wetting the hair first. Rinse that section of hair with warm water and shampoo as usual to remove all traces of Vaseline from hair.
Stop A Squeak With Petroleum Jelly
Petroleum jelly is an oil based product and will stop a squeak very similar to the way WD-40 stops squeaks. Apply a thin layer of Vaseline to a squeaky door hinge, squeaky drawer or squeaky shoes. Petroleum jelly will also help drawers and doors open and close easier.
Apply Vaseline To Candle Holders For Quick Wax Removal
Before lighting candles, apply a thin layer of Vaseline to the candle holder or votive cups. After the candles have burned and the wax has melted and cooled, the wax will pop right off of the candle holders and make cleanup a breeze.
Faux Mascara And Eye Lash Moisturizer
When mascara is not desired or available, Vaseline petroleum jelly makes eye lashes shine and gives the faux appearance of mascara. Place a tiny smear of petroleum jelly on side of finger, hold the finger in front of the eye and blink. The eyelashes will get a thin coat of Vaseline which will make them appear shiny and dark. This is a good tip to use on pre-teen or tween-age girls who aren’t quite ready for using real mascara. The petroleum jelly will also act as an eyelash moisturizer to help lashes stay strong and flexible.
Protect skin from color splashes, remove gum from hair, stop a squeak, remove candle, shine and moisturize eyelashes. Five different things Vaseline petroleum jelly can do in addition to other favorite, standard usages.
