Cleaning your vacuum out regularly is one of the most overlooked tips when it comes to making it last longer. If you have bags and filters on your vacuum cleaner then you should changing these out at least two times a year. Bagless vacuum cleaners need to be emptied after every use and the debris canister should be wiped out with a rag or a sponge. When you clean out the debris container you should wash it with soap and warm water and let it air dry completely. You also need to take the filter out if your vacuum has one and wash it with warm water and soap also making sure it air dries completely. Check your vacuum suctioning power a few times a year to make sure that it is working properly and if it is not then you should take it to a repair shop immediately. Sometimes it might stop suctioning if something gets clogged or stuck in the hose and a simple repair will fix the problem. The outside of your vacuum cleaner should also be wiped down with a damp cloth to ensure that no debris is collecting on the outside which might end up damaging the motor or other parts in the vacuum cleaner.
A refrigerator is also another household appliance you want to make sure you clean constantly to ensure it will last longer. When you clean your refrigerator you want to clean the door gaskets with water and a degreaser or soap. You also want to vacuum behind the refrigerator on a monthly basis to ensure the coils are not collecting dust. If your coils are collecting dust then your electric bill might increase and the refrigerator might end up going out faster. You want to clean the inside and outside of your refrigerator out at least four times a year to ensure no food and grime is stuck anywhere. You should also take the time to move your refrigerator once a month to sweep and mop where the refrigerator sits at in your kitchen. Underneath the refrigerator is where you collect a lot of dust and spilled food and it can really mess up your refrigerator and the motor in it. When you are cleaning your refrigerator it is always a good idea to unplug the appliance so that you are not damaging the coils or cords or electrocuting yourself.
Ceiling fans are another household appliance that you want to clean regularly to make them last longer. Ceiling fans are not that hard to clean but it is often something we do not think about when it comes to keeping appliances maintained. Look at your ceiling fan and make sure the blades of the fan are in good working condition before you start cleaning. If the blades are not correctly fastened or they have become warped then this might just be the time to replace the ceiling fan all together. The motor in a ceiling fan can not hold the weight of warped fan blades and it will lead to damage and eventually failure. In order to clean the ceiling fan blades you will need to first turn the ceiling fan off to ensure your safety as you clean. You can either unscrew each fan blade to clean them individually in a sink or you can just wipe them while they are still attached. Get a rag and dampen it with soap and warm water and wipe both the top and the bottom of the blade. You want to make sure you get the edges of the ceiling fan blade as well because this is the part of the fan that can become heavy with debris which can cause damage. Let the blades air dry with the ceiling fan turned off so that water does not splash into the bulb or interior of the fan. If you choose to take the blades off and wash them in the sink you use warm water and soap on a washcloth paying close attention to the edges of the blade. Let the blades air dry on a table or outside for a few hours before placing them back on the ceiling fan. You should be cleaning your ceiling fan blades at least once every couple months to keep the debris and dust off of them which will make it last longer.
An air conditioner is an appliance we should be cleaning often to keep it lasting longer and to keep it running properly. With an air conditioner the main thing you need to worry about cleaning are the vents and coils. To clean the coils you will have to take the front panel off of the air conditioner which should either unsnap or unscrew with a screwdriver. You want to vacuum the coils individually to make sure you get all of the dust and debris off of them which can damage the motor and ruin your air conditioner. The vents need to also be vacuumed to make sure that air can flow properly through the air conditioner and that no particles are going to clog up the motor. It is also a good idea to wipe the air conditioner down with a damp cloth to get any residue or food off of the air conditioner which can damage the motor and decrease air flow. Depending on which air conditioner unit you use, cleaning it might be a little different as the coils might be located in different areas. You should always clean your air conditioner out before the start of each summer season and the end of the season before you put it away. You might also want to clean it during the middle of the summer season as well if you live in pollinated or dusty areas.
