With thousands of pounds to spend on designer clothing, celebrities should always look fabulous. Most of the time they achieve it. But there are occasions when their sense of taste (or their personal shopper) seems to mysteriously vanish which leads to some hideous fashion disasters. When this happens, there is nowhere to hide from the paparazzi and they are quickly condemned to the fashion hall of shame, forced to be reminded of their mistakes forever more. Over the years there have been an enormous amount of celebrity fashion disasters, but here are the top five ultimate fashion crimes of all time.
1) Christina Aguilera
In 2001, at the Blockbuster Music Awards, Christina Aguilera donned this monstrosity of a dress. There are so many things wrong with this look, it’s unreal. Not only does it look as if the dress has lost a fight with a shredder, her hair is inexplicable and her make-up wouldn’t be out of place in a circus. This is fashion at its absolute worst.
2) Rihanna
Rihanna is a beautiful young lady with an incredible figure. So what was she thinking when she wore this? If it were black, she might look like a weird, winged creature from a video game or a movie. Yes, it perfectly fits her shape but the enormous eighties style shoulders and bizarre pale shoes just look wrong.
3) Cate Blanchett
This dress is an epic failure. Being one shouldered and trimmed in black does not help to make this crocheted nightmare any more acceptable. It’s too bright, too chunky and too ugly to ever have been seen on the red carpet. It would make a lovely picnic blanket though.
4) Mel B
Former Spice Girls bandmate Geri Halliwell recently topped a poll for wearing one of the most iconic dresses in the last fifty years. Sadly Mel B’s sense of style isn’t even close to matching Geri’s with this outfit. Still unsure as to whether it really is just an ugly, boring black top or if it does split into short shorts at the bottom but either way, it looks ridiculous.
5) Sandra Bullock
At the premiere for All About Steve, Sandra Bullock showed up wearing a very colourful and rather unflattering dress. It looks a little bit like one of those mix ‘n’ match doll books where you flip the pages to change either the top or bottom half to create weird outfits and it just doesn’t work. That isn’t even the worst part though. Had she teamed it with a cute pair of heels, it might have been acceptable, but ankle boots? No.
As you can see, even the most beautiful women in the world have bad wardrobe days. Celebrity fashion mistakes are part of life in the spotlight, but with just a little extra thought, they could easily be avoided.
