Last night on Dancing with the Stars, the finalists danced off during the first half of the show.
Erin Andrews and her partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, started the show with an almost perfect samba. They had an incredible charm to their sassy romp as they twisted and twirled their way across the stage, playfully flirting it up to the judges and each stealing a kiss on the cheek from judge, Len, for their big finish. There was a huge improvement from the last time they danced the Samba. Len said it was “fantastic.” I thought the dance deserved a 30 but the judges gave them a 29, Bruno being the one judge who gave them a less than perfect score.
Up second were Evan Lysacek and his partner Anna Trebunskaya gracefully, dancing the Viennese Waltz to the song “The Piano Man”. While the dance was fluid and elegant it did lack a sort of enticement that I like to see in the performances this late in a season of Dancing with The Stars. Len thought Evens “standing leg” collapsed “a little bit” during his movements during the dance, but overall the judges found it to be a nice piece. They scored 28 out of 30 with Carrie Ann giving the only ten.
Finishing off the first round was Nicole Scherzinger and her partner Derek Hough. They performed a graceful and soft rendition of the Rumba, to the song “Lady in Red.” Len felt there was a “lack of confidence” from Nicole. Bruno thought it was romantic and beautiful. I thought this dance lacked that certain something that Nicole usually brings with her to the dance floor; she has this way of luring the audience into her movement. The judges gave them 28 out of 30.
Starting the Freestyle round was Erin and Max. The danced a contemporary Lyrical freestyle that was passionate and emotional. They drew the audience pulling off some incredible moves and impressing the judges. Len said it was a “mix of emotion and commotion.” They received a 9 from Bruno and Carry and an 8 from Len giving them a total of 28 which brought their final tally for the night to a 55 .
The next couple to hit the dance floor, with there freestyle, was Evan and Anna Trebunskaya. The two had a rough week during rehearsals, they really clash as they worked on their freestyle. They couldn’t agree on one style for their dance. You could really see the pressure had mounted; Anna even broke into tears at one point. They finally accomplished a mesh of their approaches that resulted in a high energy jazzy, swing. It was interesting; the judges didn’t think it turned out all that well. They ranked them at a mere 24 out of 30 bringing their total score for the night to a 52
The first half of Dancing with the Stars of dance ended with an incredible high octane boogie. Nicole and her partner Derek Hough danced their freestyle in sparkly back pant suits and yellow shoes. While the dance may have been done well it was hard to tell; their costumes really took away from the effect. When they finally stripped off the suits near the end of the dance It was a relief but only for a second; they stumbled during their last lift, Derek almost dropped Nicole. The judges gave them three 9’s leaving them with a total of 55.
Erin and her partner Max, and Nicole and her partner Derek tied for the top spot. However, watching the show, it was easy to see that Erin and Max easily took the first half of dancing with the stars. They really improved from last week’s performances. They were really fun to watch
