First dates are arguably the most nerve wrenching parts of any potential relationship. A first date is your opportunity to make a memorable first impression and will tell you if your date is worthy for the long-term. However, misguided signals and over thinking can leave you wondering if your date was really into you. As a guy and dating and relationships writer, I will devolve the tell tale signs during a first date if he is interested in your or not.
1. He Makes Eye Contact and Follows up Your Conversation
First date conversation is important because it allows you to find out if you and your date have anything in common. When guys are uninterested, we tend to follow up your conversation pieces with short responses. When we do this, we are hoping the conversation will change for something we are mutually interesting. Finding the common ground conversation is what will determine if there will be a second and third date. When we are interested, we will make eye contact and appear interested in the conversation, even if we are not.
2. We Won’t Answer our Phones
21st century dating is defined by the digital age with Facebook, smart phones, instant messages and email. When we are generally interested, we will forget that our iPhone is vibrating in our pocket and continue the date without ever looking at who is contacting us. I admit that checking our phone on a first date is somewhat of a nervous habit. However, if we check our phones as a nervous habit we will almost never respond to a text or a missed call, unless it is important.
3. We Don’t Try to Have Sex on the First Date
First date sex is questionable at best because it feels more like a one nightstand than something long-term. If we respect you and are interested in more than just sex, we will wait for the big moment as long as you want us to. Guys that are dating and looking for a long-term commitment will wait for sex as long as you show interest in him. From experience, first date sex rarely turns into something serious because it takes away from the fun in the chase.
4. We Are Gentlemen
Those who say chivalry is dead are clearly not going after the right type of man. If we find you interesting and potential for a relationship we will open the car door for you, seat you in the restaurant and will respect you. The opposite holds true if we are uninterested because we do not want to lead you on.
5. We Talk About You More than Ourselves
For those of us that are more accomplished than others we tend to talk about ourselves during a first date. However, when we are interested in our date we want her to feel comfortable with us. By listening to her talk, we are showing that we can listen and that we genuinely like you.
6. He Follows Up the Next Day
When we are interested in a first date, we will try to make a second date as quickly as possible. Do not be alarmed if we send a text message for a second date, we do this because we are often too nervous to ask in person or by phone. If we are nervous about a second date we are interested and do not want to mess anything up, therefore we try to say what we want in the least amount of words.
