One doesn’t have to search long to find art and craft programs here in the Naperville area. Finding classes that are not run of the mill can be more of a challenge. The major art and craft stores offer classes, but their choices are stagnate, there is nothing new or innovative being offered. One day on my way home from school I noticed a sign “Art Room” in a local strip mall and decided to check it out.
A BREATH OF FRESH AIR
The Art Room provides fine art training for ages five through adult. They use drawing and painting to teach the principles of fine art. Students are encouraged to reach inside and discover their untapped creative expression.
When you enter the Art Room you are immediately met with walls that are covered with finished paintings and works in progress. Each painting is a different ability level, but the colors are vibrant and fill the room with joy. One can’t help but smile as they look from painting to painting, especially when viewing the children’s paintings.
The Art Room teaches students that are as young as five. There are various levels: beginners, intermediate and advanced. Children’s lessons start with an introduction to drawing using pencil, soft pastels, and charcoal. They are then introduced to watercolor, acrylic and oil paint. The lessons teach even young students how to work with each of these materials, using them effectively to create wonderfully colorful masterpieces.
Adult classes follow the same outline as children’s classes. They also have beginners, intermediate and advanced classes.
The Art Room also offer:
Summer camp: available weekly from June 7 through August 9
Tuition is $20 per 2 hour lesson
Students bring their own materials.
Supply list provided.
Lessons are two hours long and scheduling is flexible.
Gift cards are available.

Children are naturally creative. It isn’t hard for them to bring their imagination into the real world. The Art Room channels that imagination and teaches children how to use various art materials to enhance their inner world.
As we age we lose our natural childhood creativity. We let our inner critic take over and convince ourselves that we are not creative. The Art Room will break down those barriers allowing child-like imagination to flow.
