At $7.99 in the iTunes app store, Fieldrunners for iPad comes off as a little high priced, but the challenging and addictive nature of Fieldrunners for iPad makes it worth every penny. Fieldrunners might just be the most addictive game for the iPad.
Fieldrunners for iPad is a remake of the popular Fieldrunners tower defense game for the iPhone and iPod Touch – Winner of the Best Mobile Game of 2009 award. Fieldrunners was a smash hit on the much smaller iPhone and iPod Touch, but with an HD screen and 9.7″ display, Fieldrunners for iPad promises to be more addictive and, well, challenging.
If you have a busy work, school, or social life I’m warning you to never start playing Fieldrunners for iPad. Fieldrunners is a tower defense game (think Plants vs. Zombies, but more challenging) in which the objective is to stop enemies from reaching your base/tower/home/etc. and causing havoc. To accomplish this task in Fieldrunners for iPad, you’re given a selection of weapons (4 in Classic Mode, 6 in Endless Mode) to purchase and gun down, zap, and bomb wave after wave of Fieldrunners that are constantly trying to attack your base. Killing Fieldrunners will allow you earn money and buy more weapons to… kill more Fieldrunners.
Sound simple enough, right? In theory, the Fieldrunners iPad app sounds like a piece of cake, but in practice, Fieldrunners is challenging, addictive, and will have you wondering if your mind is playing tricks on you when you look up and notice how much time has passed. The real trick to playing Fieldrunners comes down to your gaming strategy – how and where you position your weapons and which weapons you choose. Fieldrunners for iPad can quickly go from easy owning to having your forces knocked over in just a matter of moments. One tip that you’re better off following when playing Fieldrunners is to make mazes for your enemies to follow while keeping a strong arsenal of weapons to stop those annoying choppers that’ll show up from time to time.
Playing Fieldrunners will definitely shave a few hours off the clock, but you won’t be playing in vain. Fieldrunners for iPad comes with lots of achievements to unlock – and keep you playing forever -, unlockable levels, and a leaderboards to overcome. Overall, Fieldrunners has lots of playability, takes quite a bit of skill, and is highly enjoyable on the Apple iPad. The price of this game app might seem a bit pricey, but its more than justified for the fun that it provides
