The music video for the Lady Gaga summer of 2010 single “Alejandro” debuted online on June 8, and the video featured some interesting, albeit less glamorous than usual, fashion and style choices. For fans of Lady Gaga who want to emulate a bit of the music video “Alejandro”, there are some clothing options and stylization options to help you get the look!
The beginning of the video features Lady Gaga working some unique eye wear which is a bit goggles meats classic jeweler’s loupe. It would be difficult to purchase such neat goggles, but you could purchase an standard loupe and then have add a “cracked” effect to the lenses by utilizing strands of crafter’s foil. If applied strategically with tweezers, there would still be slight visibility through the loupe, but the outside world would be magnified. Bhphotovideo.com has a loupe that could get the process tarted.
The Religious Habit
Lady Gaga appears within the video in a religious habit that appears to be partly a monk’s habit and partly a crusade’s era tunic. This would best be originally created by someone with an eye for altering an existing white dress with the emblems present, but if you require more than a kick-start, the Crusader’s Cape at Urban-Collector.com would fit the bill. If you know anyone who can make alterations, they could give the cape a more feminine fit and stylization with a few sewing machine tricks.
The Bowl Haircut
Lady Gaga rocks a bowl haircut style throughout portions of the video. According to TheFrisky.com Gaga was spotted at Manchester Academy in July of 2009 with a similar bowl haircut style, so it is possible that this portion of the video is entirely her own hair, especially considering she had a relatively short slick-backed style on Larry King Live on June 1, 2010. Despite the title of the cut, do not try to give yourself the look by placing a bowl over your head and snipping away. Ask your stylist for a cute interpretation of the bowl haircut, and you will be much better off.
The Black Jumpsuit
In the video for “Alejandro” Lady Gaga is outfitted in what appears to be a black jumpsuit (but is likely a two-piece ensemble) with a bit of a “V-scoop” in the front. A similarly styled jumpsuit can be purchased from Venus.com for $29.00. This jumpsuit is entirely black minus a metallic ring detail at the beltline. Like Gaga’s black ensemble, this jumpsuit also featured a deep V-neck and a slight flare at the ankle.
The Black Lips and Nails
A make-up kit can be purchased from Amazon.com that will allow you to get the starting black gothic lips and fingernails present in the music video for “Alejandro”. The black lipstick in particular will require a whole look to be pulled off most properly.
The music video for “Alejandro” contained new and different elements of fashion for Lady Gaga. The artful clothing was present, but in a totally different form from many of her endeavors – the mark of a true creative mind!
