If you are looking for a great place to have a birthday party for kids, or if you just want to have a nice time away for a fun filled family vacation in the Northwoods, check out the Waters of Minocqua.
The Waters of Minocqua is located at 8116 U.S. Highway 51 S in Minocqua, Wisconsin. A total of 160,000 square feet they offer the only indoor waterpark of its kind located in Northen Wisconsin. Overall it is a great place for kids of all ages and would be a perfect place to have a wedding. My niece and nephew had a friend’s birthday party to attend so we made it a family get together trip.
We first walked into the hotel and already we were all amazed. The lobby is absolutely beautiful with high vaulted ceilings with deer antler chandeliers hanging from the. Some walls were made of large stones and other walls were made out of logs. On the walls hung pictures of nature, animal heads like deer and moose, and large furry bear skin rugs. There were large wooden beams criss crossing across the ceiling, hand crafted wood furniture all around and the best part of the lobby was the large stone fireplace that is built all the way up to the ceiling. It is very cozy . There is a nice gift shop in the lobby where you can find everything from shirts to knick knacks to postcards.
The hotel’s waterpark is 10,000 square feet of fun with high vaulted ceilings and any hotel guests gets free access to the waterpark at anytime. The indoor water park has a nice sized kiddie pool complete with water geysers, slides and shower heads that kids can stand under and get drenched with water as they are splashing around in the pool.
There is a larger pool for the older kids complete with water basketball and water volleyball. Two large tube slides that are completely enclosed and end by the person getting plunged into the pool will keep the kids entertained for hours. There is a lifeguard on duty, so you can be sure your kids will be safe!
Around the pool area are plenty of lounge chairs for the adults to kick back and relax as the kids are having fun. You can also head over to the pool’s snack bar and grab yourself a cold beer, glass of wine or a quick snack for energy or lay back and sit in the indoor or outdoor hot tub. No carry ins are allowed at the pool, so whatever you want to drink or eat has to be purchased at the snakc bar.
Outside you will find another large pool that also has water activities like basketball, ring toss and volleyball. There were even a few games that families could play out here like horseshoes or volleyball. Or you could head over to the fire pits and have a nice grilled out dinner after a long day in the waterpark.
After the kids are bored with swimming, you can head over to the large arcade. This was my nephew’s favorite part besides the pool. Most of the games in here gave you tickets that you could later turn in for cute kids’ prizes. They had everything from basketball to skeeball to whack a mole to the ticket wheel stopper game to pinball. The walls were painted in fun, bright colors to add to the fun atmosphere. Adults were even having fun in here playing the games.
The bar was one of my favorites, the atmosphere was spectacular in here. It was very roomy and the oak wood bar had lots of sitting room at it. Above you hung long pieces of white birch branches that framed the room. Around the rest of the area were tables that sat between 2-8 guests. Anything you wanted to drink from local tap beer favorites to wine to Margaritas they had it.
After a few drinks you can order food at the bar/lounge. They served different kinds of homemade pizza, chicken sandwiches, onion rings, Buffalo wings, deluxe burger with your choice of toppings, BBQ ribs, deep fried fish, gyros, pitas, prime rib and many other American Pub favorites. We had one of their Chicago style deep dish pizzas and it definitely hit the spot for us! I am usually not a huge pizza eater, and I thought it was great and loaded with lots of toppings.
For our room, we stayed in the 2 room suite and it was very nice. There were 2 rooms, one room had a queen sized bed and the other room had a king sized bed. Then there was also a pull out sofa couch with a coffee table in the sitting room area with a TV. It was very comfortable and roomy in here.
All rooms include a mini refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, a private outside balcony, ironing board and iron, hair dryer, and high speed internet access at an extra charge. For TV you have all of the basic local channels and HBO family. The atmosphere of the rooms makes the whole experience of staying in the Northwoods complete with all handcrafted furniture and log walls. A few of the other rooms also include fireplaces and whirlpool tubs.
The hotel offers 106 rooms to choose from . Your choices were loft suites, King Whirlpool suites, Queen Suites with a fireplace, standard double rooms or deluxe double queen rooms. It all depends on what you are looking for and how many people are in your group. All of the prices for the rooms were fairly reasonable.
For parties or weddings you had 2 large conference room s that you could rent. Or if you wanted a unique outdoor party, you could rent the large white tent complete with a beautiful wooden floor dance floor. We looked inside the tent and it was absolutely amazing. There were strings of lights draped from the ceiling, round tables covered with white table clothes and a long banquet table along the side of the tent. I could just imagine what it would look like after there were decorations all over the room. It was very intimate and romantic in this area, and I think that it would be the perfect location for a wedding reception.
Overall, this is an excellent family fun getaway. After seeing the beautiful conference rooms and outdoor tent, I think this hotel would also be great for a Northwoods wedding. No matter how old you are or how old the kids are, there is plenty to do in this resort. So I recommend checking out The Waters of Minocqua for your next family vacation that is within the family budget.
