Would you like to discover your creative side? Or learn a new type of craft? If your answer is “yes”, and you live in Southern Illinois, then come take a fall craft class at the Little Egypt Arts Centre on the Square in Downtown Marion! The Centre, operated by volunteer members of the non-profit Little Egypt Arts Association (LEAA), is a beehive of art related activity almost every day of the week. If you an art or craft lover, photographer, patron, student, beginning to professional artist, LEAA has something for you!
Monday starts the fall lineup with Beginning Rug Hooking taught by Patty Morrison starting October 4 and ending November 1. There will be no class October 18. Classes are from 10:00-12:30 P.M. and the cost is $7.50 per class. Students will learn how to recycle fabric scraps into items such as decorative rugs, potholders, or wall hangings.
Beginning Mosaics, taught by Peggy Forthman, will be offered on Tuesdays from 12:30-3:00 P.M. The class starts August 17 and ends on September 7. The cost is $35 for members plus $3 for a mosaic kit. Glass Quilt Blocks, taught by Colleen Thompson, starts September 21 and ends October 26, from 12:30-3:30 P.M. The class costs $50 for members and $65 for nonmembers, plus a $10 lab fee.
Colleen Thompson will also be teaching classes on Wednesdays. Create Greeting Cards starts on September 1 and ends October 6. The cost is $52 for members and $67 for nonmembers and class time is from 10:00-1:00 P.M. David Brewer will teach a digital imaging class on Wednesdays from October 6-November 3. The classes are from 3:00-4:30 P.M. and the cost is $40. Material covered in the classes will include digital imaging concepts, processes, post-processing, portfolio reviews, and more.
LEAA also offers open studio times for members on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Tuesday open studio is designed especially for painters of any medium, and Saturday sessions were created for fiber artists such as quilters, fiber crafters, and rug hookers. Membership is just $50 per year for individuals, and $65 for families. LEAA members also receive many benefits such as gallery exhibit space for a small commission, quarterly newsletter, informative meetings with guest speakers and instructors, separate fiber and photography groups, and much more.
