This will be a mission guide for Radar Site Scanning which is a part of the Exploration Career Advancement mission arc in Eve Online. This mission will introduce the player to scanning down, and extracting valuable resources from radar sites using probes and hacking tools. The objectives are to scan down a training radar site, warp to it, and retrieve one unit of Proof of Discovery: Radar (1.0 m³), and the rewards for doing so will be one unit of Astrometric Pinpointing (skill book), and a bonus reward of 32,000 credits for completing the mission within 2 hours and 22 minutes. The mission notes that in a regular situation, attempting to loot radar site containers without hacking them first, can cause enemies to spawn and attack the player.
Astrometric Pinpointing is a valuable skill used for exploration that reduces scan deviation by 10% per level trained.
Upon starting a conversation with Chigas Ovoken, the Caldari Exploration Career Advancement agent, I am confronted with the following request “Your next assignment is to scan down a Radar site. Core Scanner probes can detect areas of increased electronic activity, these show as Radar signatures. Research facilities, data storage banks – these are the sorts of things you can expect a Radar signature to represent. More often than not, there will be hostile vessels around to guard all of that valuable data too, so always expect resistance in sites like these.
The materials you can recover in a Radar site can be quite valuable. They are all used during invention – a research process that produces blueprints for advanced Tech II ships and modules. Even if you’re not a scientist yourself, the materials can be sold on for a tidy profit. In order to recover valuable data and schematics from a Radar site though, you need to train in the use of a Codebreaker. Codebreakers allow you to bypass electronics systems, or even disable them entirely. For this mission, you will be using a Civilian Codebreaker. We’ll provide one in the tutorial that displays on your NeoCom after you’ve accepted the assignment.
You should know the drill by now – once you’ve scanned down the Radar signature, there will be a container inside. It can only be unlocked by using the Civilian Codebreaker. Inside you will find the “Proof of Discovery” documents needed to pass this section of the training program.”
Upon accepting the mission, a new mini tutorial pops up in the bottom right corner, explaining the ins and outs of using the codebreaker on radar site cans. The then tutorial provides me with the civilian codebreaker I will need for this mission. For this mission I will be using my bantam again, since this is a training mission, I do not need to use one of the specialized ships sine the site shouldn’t be that hard to pinpoint. Fitting the codebreaker to a free mid power slot gets me all set to do this mission.
Undocking I instantly start launching probes. I’m going to start by using 4 and see how well that works, and if need be, I will add a fifth probe to increase my capacity to pinpoint my target. I will have to arrange the 4 probes in a way where they all are able to detect the sites location, rearranging them and reducing the scanning radius to get a better signal until its strong enough for me to jump to. It takes me 4 steps, and reducing my scan radius to 4 AU to get a green dot, or 100% signal strength, allowing me to warp to the location.
An agent named Rulie Isoryn contacts me upon me arrival, congratulating me and informing me of the typical contents of radar sites, which usually will include invention materials. Flying to the can, using the codebreaker to unlock it, and retrieving the documents completes the main objective of the mission, allowing me to warp back to the state war academy, and claim my skillbook and isk rewards for Radar Site Scanning.
