This guide will cover the Eve Online agent mission entitled Ladar Site Scanning. This mission is an exploration based mission part of the Exploration Career Advancement mission arc. Ladar Site Scanning introduces the player to using probes to track down Ladar sites, or otherwise known as gas clouds. My objective in this mission is to retrieve one unit of Proof of Discovery: Ladar (1.0 m3) and bring it back to my Exploration Career agent Chigas Ovoken. My rewards for this mission will be one Heron and a bonus 21,000 credits if the mission is completed in 1 hour and 31 minutes, with a granted token to access the second room in the Ladar site.
The speech presented upon requesting the mission is “Your last assignment is to scan down a Ladar signature. Ladar signatures are created when interstellar gas cloud formations collect into densely-packed clusters. These clouds can actually be acquired by using Gas Cloud Harvesters. The materials found inside these gas clouds can be used to make biochemical enhancers known as boosters. I should warn you right now. The booster industry is a controversial one. Although some weaker forms of boosters are legal, many of the substances inside the strongest, most pure boosters are both narcotic and highly illegal. It is not an industry you should enter into lightly, even as a capsuleer. Your assignment for this mission is to scan down a Ladar signature. We have artificially created a cloud pocket in this system that is similar to one you might find naturally occurring in space. It will appear to you as a Ladar signature. Once you have scanned it down, you will need to progress to the second area and recover the Proof of Discovery document. This will be the physical evidence that proves you have located the site and passed this lesson.” This mission is considered an important mission and will significantly impact faction standings more than a regular mission.
After accepting a Ladar Site tutorial pops up in the bottom right, informing the player of the Ladar sites, and their contents of interstellar gas cloud pockets. These gas clouds are harvested by players to produce boosters, a highly shady and mostly illegal business creating items that temporarily “boost” certain attributes of player’s characters. Occasionally however, Ladar sites may contain a pirate base hidden inside a gas cloud, producing boosters. These hideouts often contain items reachable only through hacking with codebreaker modules. The two types of gas clouds are Mykoserocin (low sec) and Cytoserocin (0.0 sec). It’s safe to say, Cytoseocin would be the more illegal, but profitable of the two gas cloud types. Using my bantam again for this mission, I undock and prepare to scan down some Ladar.
2 Steps down to 4 au with 4 probes is all it takes to pinpoint a Ladar Training site in close orbit of Uitra IV. Warping to the location greets me with Rulie Isoryn telling me I have reached my destination, and instructing me to use the passkey I was granted at the beginning of this mission to activate the acceleration gate to proceed to the next room. The area I drop out of warp into, is a large stalactite shaped asteroid with a tiny blue glowing gas cloud and the designated container floating nearby. Rulie Isoryn congratulates me on the success of the mission Ladar Site Scanning, and I move to pick up the proof of discovery and head back to the State War Academy to turn in the mission, and retrieve my new heron. Turning in my proof of discovery to Chigas completes the mission Ladar Site Scanning.
