After a long departure from Eve Online, and ditching both of my previously made accounts, I have decided to pick the game up again, with the latest expansion release Tyrannis it looks like they have added a slew of interesting new features. I will be chronochling my experience through articles as I play, hopefully covering a brevity of topics in the game. But let’s get started…

Day 1: “Let’s create a character”
Starting up my new account, which now only costs 15$, the price of a month’s subscription which comes included with the account for free. Excellent! I was strapped for cash, and little bonuses like this are always welcome. Now on to races, I’m picking Caldari for this character since I have a particular fancy for their ships. Eve Online’s Character creation system really focuses only on the face portrait of your character, but gives tons of customizable features such as; Background image, Light direction, Beards, Costumes, Facial decorations such as implants or piercings, Eyebrows, Eyes, Hair Skin and 4 XY based sliders for head, eyes, jaws and mouth sculpting. Pretty easy to replicate a incredible amount of life like facial features/expressions.
Following my theme of picking character names out of real life people, I decided to go with Jesse Jakson. Time to get started!
I begin dropped off in the middle of space in the high security (area considered safest in the game) system Kisogo sitting in my shiny new training ship the Ibis. Now I already know a lot about this game but I decide to breeze through the tutorial real quick, which for a new player, gives an excellent crash course on how to pick up the various aspects of the game as quickly as possible and rewarding you with goodies at the same time. First it covers the various important menus, and camera movement, continuing on to my first engagement with a baddy. After I take down the sucker it’s time to loot his wreck and hop to the nearest station to continue my training. I begin teaching my character the new skill I was given during the first half of the tutorial called Hull Upgrades that boosts hit points by 5% per level trained, plus will allow me to use more modules to upgrade my ship later on.
I warp to Kisogo VII – State War Academy School and the ship rockets into warp speed while creating a brilliant tunnel around my craft. I’m given a bunch of additional goodies upon entering the station, some skills to train mostly, and start putting them to good use. After being walked through a few additional steps I’m given my first mission and am set to undock again.
My First Mission is a simple search and destroy, I am tasked with warping out to a location and taking out a single enemy. I accomplish this simply enough and then return to the same station for a reward and my next mission, this time a courier one. Undocking again I begin my jump to the gate that will allow me to cross over to the neighboring system Urlen where my drop awaits. I jump through the gate, which emits a large blue burst that fires off into space, signaling my departure from the system.
I appear again on the opposite side of the gate, now in the solar system Urlen cloaked in the invisibility shield that protects your ship after jumping into a system. The Invisibility is very handy to keep from getting quickly ganked by pirates in more dangerous systems. Docking with the station I complete my drop, netting me some extra cash of about 40,000 isk and giving me the last few tips to get started with my expedition into the world of eve.
