First off, tell me a little bit about yourself.
I am a wife and a mother to two funny little kids, a four year old little girl with the gift of gab and a two year old little boy who is most happy reading books or playing with his trains. I also work full time as a technical writer for a pharmaceutical company. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, cooking, gardening, reading, and of course making jewelry! Needless to say, my life involves a lot of multi-tasking!
My Etsy shop is called Classy Simple You. I was always the pearl or diamond stud kind of girl, simple and classy. Now, I like to create jewelry beyond the basics but still with an understated elegance. The type of jewelry that looks great with jeans, a sundress, or a formal gown. My designs are all handmade by me for classy simple you!
How and when did you start making jewelry and your other items?
After I had kids something came over me where all I wanted to do was make things…sew, bake, paint, build, you name it! I had dabbled in making jewelry a few years back but at that time it was just a fleeting interest. Well, I picked it up again and now I can’t stop! It is such a release for me to sit and create something beautiful.
When and how did you originally find Etsy?
I originally found out about Etsy when a friend of mine was making barrettes for her little girl and started selling them on Etsy. Once I visited the site I became addicted. Everyday I am amazed by the creativity. I love to buy unique gifts and Etsy stores never disappoint.
What is unique about Etsy and what about the website do you like the most in regards to your shop?
Etsy is unique in that it is a virtual co-op. We always hear the term “made by a local artist” Etsy is that…but now we have access to artistry all over the world. I am new to selling on Etsy and I was surprised at how easy it was to get started. I created a store, got a paypal account, and started listing items all within an hour.
What inspires you the most in regards to your creations?
I grew up in a coastal town in Massachusetts. I am inspired by the natural beauty of elements like pearls and shell. I am drawn to the neutral colors of the beach and the blues of the sky and ocean. I can almost smell the sea air…
What is your favorite piece you’ve created and why?
My favorite piece I have created is a pair of lever-back earrings with a blue mother-of-pearl shell disk with a wire-wrapped button pearl overlay. It is so simple and so natural…it make’s me think mother-nature had a thing for beads too…
What do you want to accomplish with your online shop?
When I started making jewelry I would bring gifts to my friends and family whenever I visited them. Everyone seemed to really like what I had made. It made me feel great when I would see them wearing a piece. It almost feels as good as when my mom would wear the macaroni necklace I spray painted gold and gave to her for Christmas when I was in the 2nd grade.
Well, that feeling is recreated if someone else out there likes my things…I am honored and proud if someone actually wants and enjoys something I created with thought and with my hands. What was the question again? Oh, yeah, so I want to share my jewelry with others and hope that they enjoy the things that I have created. Everything in my shop is under $15, I’m not doing this just for the money. It’s fun for me and if I can recoup some of the money I have spent on beads then that would be great.
Do you have any new creations in the works? If so, what can shoppers expect to see from you soon?
I have only listed earrings so far but I have a few other things up my sleeve. I have some gorgeous pendant necklaces (including wire-wrapped Swarovski briolettes) and wire-wrapped rings that I will be adding towards the end of the month.
Where can readers find out about more information regarding your jewelry and other creations and where can readers find additional info and special offers?
I update my Etsy shop daily with new items and new deals. For my grand opening I am offering the following specials for the month of August. Buy any two pairs of earrings and get an “Everyday” pair of earrings free. (Everyday earrings, as I call them, are tiny wire-wrapped briolettes, they are adorable). Also, buy 3 pairs of earrings and get the fourth of equal or lesser value free.
