First off, tell me a little bit about yourself.
I’m the owner of bluembrownlee. I’m a work-at-home mom to 2 children, a daughter who is 7 and a son who is 5 months old now. They take up most of my time, but thankfully I do get moments here and there to make my items. I love my Etsy store, it gives me such pleasure creating items that people love and enjoy. It truly is my outlet, I would go nuts without it
How and when did you start making jewelry and your other items?
I’ve always been artistic and crafty. I have been a self-taught artist for the most part, devouring tons of books over the years to learn the basics. From that point on I grew and developed my own techniques for making my items. In 2007 I decided to try and sell some of my creations. To my surprise my store took off and has grown quite large now. It’s been a wonderful journey!
When and how did you originally find Etsy?
One of my friends was already on Etsy and that’s how I found out about it. She was crazy about Etsy and was telling me I needed to start an Etsy shop. Finally I got around to trying it out and haven’t looked back since!
What is unique about Etsy and what about the website do you like the most in regards to your shop?
I love how streamlined my shop appearance is. The item categories are wonderful and easily seen. Artists can really show who they are from their banners to their bios. The fees are very reasonable as well. In addition everything is pretty straightforward as far as listing items and managing your store. Most of all I love the emphasis on artistry and beauty that is apparent from the front page of Etsy and while browsing around. It’s such a creative and unique place! No other online selling venue matches it in my opinion.
What inspires you the most in regards to your creations?
I love working with nature-inspired items. Whether it is natural gemstones, photos of nature, or real butterfly wings & peacock feathers, all of the beauty in nature inspires me to mirror it within my creations. And as an important side note, none of my butterfly wings or feathers are collected from animals that have been harmed. Instead they are collected from butterflies that have lived out their natural lifespans and peacocks that have molted their feathers naturally. Very nature conscious as well!
What is your favorite piece you’ve created and why?
My favorite piece if I had to choose one (so hard!), is probably my round Eye of the Peacock necklace. I love how the round shape of the pendant mirrors the natural round shape of the peacock eye feather. It is just so cool and unique – I secretly want to keep it for myself, lol!
What do you want to accomplish with your online shop?
Simply put, if my customers are happy, then I am happy. If someone purchases one of my creations, it truly is one of the highest compliments I can ever get. I still get a little rush from each sale, even after 1800 sales. In the end though, my shop is my little artistic outlet. It’s a way of expressing my feelings, sort of ‘art therapy’ if you wish. And if I get to share that with the world, and people happen to want a little piece of my world now and again, then I am a very lucky woman.
Do you have any new creations in the works? If so, what can shoppers expect to see from you soon?
Yes, there will be new butterfly wing and peacock feather creations coming soon. I also have a bunch of new gemstone rings in the works as well. Lots of fun new stuff!!
Where can readers find out about more information regarding your jewelry and other creations and possible special offers (including additional websites, blogs, facebook, etc)?
