I purchased this refrigerator over a year ago and my review will be both good and bad for Electrolux.
What I like:
Electrolux recommends not using with Reverse Osmosis system but it works perfectly fine with my system.
The water filter is clear, you can actually see what your water is filtering out.
What I don’t like:
Tempered Glass Shelves, I’d rather have plexiglass or something else that wont shatter into a million pieces.
Computer is easily confused.
Cleaning the inside is a pain in the neck and time consuming.
Chill draw freezes everything even on highest setting and is really a waste of space.
I use a reverse osmosis water filtration system with my refrigerator although Electrolux does not recommend using this combination. You must use the filter inside the refrigerator as well so technically the water is quadruple filtered (reverse osmosis is triple filtered). The reason is it is not recommended is that there may not be enough water pressure to make ice. My system works great with this Electrolux refrigerator, in fact, I’m thrilled with it. If you are planning on doing this, hire a professional plumber who works with reverse osmosis systems to avoid any issues.
I had one service call and Electrolux was more than happy to help me get service fast. Every service person I spoke to at Electrolux was patient and kind even when I wasn’t entirely patient or kind. I really appreciated all that they did for me to get my refrigerator repaired quickly. My only wish is that they told me how to trouble shoot the refrigerator computer on my own, I would have fixed it in minutes rather than waiting 24 hours for a service man to come to the house.
My only technical problem so far with the refrigerator is that the refrigerator stopped working while I was on vacation and I came home to a messy melted freezer. Apparently I set the refrigerator to vacation mode (as you should do) and I managed to confuse the computer within the refrigerator. Something that shouldn’t have happened but it did. My error message read EF which stands for “Evaporator Fan”. This is a message that nobody wants to get on their new refrigerator. I was in a state of panic, this refrigerator costs over $2,000 and I was not the least bit happy. Thankfully, it was not the evaporator fan and the computer only needed to be rebooted. The repairman basically just unplugged it for a few minutes and opened a panel on the inside of the refrigerator (I don’t know what button he pushed) and 10 minutes after he walked in the door it worked beautifully again.
I think Elelctrolux could improve by making this information readily available for all of its customers. Today’s customers are internet savvy and are more than willing to research a fix it problem on their own. Electrolux could have saved me a lot of time if they would just make a you tube trouble shooting video. I found all kinds of youtube videos but nothing from Electrolux.
On top of cleaning out my freezer of melted icepops, I managed to shatter the glass into what looked like thousands of pieces, some of which left me with minor bleeding on my hands and wrists and thankfully not my eyes. The glass shattered simply from changing temperatures from my freezer to the room temperature in my kitchen (which was really hot). I think that glass, tempered or not, is a really stupid idea for a refrigerator. Its just not necessary when there are so many other products that could be used in its place.
I have the IQ touch refrigerator, not the wave touch. What’s the difference? Honestly, not much. I have the wave touch oven so I can honestly say, there is almost no difference between the two options. The IQ touch shows some information on the display panel all of the time but has other information that lights up in blue backlight if you choose to display it such as the temperature. The wave touch shows absolutely nothing unless you touch the screen or set it to show everything. It just wasn’t enough of a difference for me to pay for the upgrade on the refrigerator. The oven is a different story because the options on the oven are very different between the Electrolux wave touch and IQ touch.
One of the nicest things about this refrigerator is its good looks. It doesn’t look like a restaurant refrigerator like Subzero or Thermador and it doesn’t look like a cheap wanna be stainless steel refrigerator. It looks like something that belongs in the kitchen at home. It has arched doors and handles and lots of great storage for all kinds of foods.
This refrigerator is quiet also. You’ll almost never hear it which is a big change from my old refrigerator. Then again, my old refrigerator never had a computer on it to break down!
Overall I give this refrigerator two thumbs up. One for the refrigerator its self and the other for the people at Electrolux. By the way, I never had to pay that repairman. Electrolux takes care of everything for the first 5 years. I am now a super proud Electrolux owner.
