Dr. Frank Ryan was the plastic surgeon behind the Heidi Montag plastic surgery extravaganza that encompassed a host of procedures in just one day. What few knew was the private life of Dr. Ryan, which an eerie car crash cut short.
Dr. Frank Ryan Dies in Car Crash
TMZ reports that plastic surgeon Dr. Frank Ryan died from head injuries sustained during a car crash on Monday, Aug. 16, 2010. The 50-year-old plastic surgeon was traveling on California’s Pacific Coast Highway in a Jeep when the car went off the road at approximately 4:30 p.m.. Dr. Ryan was best known for his Heidi Montag plastic surgery feat, which included a large number of procedures in just one session.
What makes this car crash so eerie are the tweets that Ryan sent just a few minutes before the car crash that would end his life. He tweeted about his hike up the sand dune on PCH West. His final tweet read, “Border collie jill [sic] surveying the view from atop the sand dune,” and included a picture of the animal. The dog survived the crash.
Beyond Heidi Montag, Gene Simmons and Vince Neil
While Heidi Montag’s plastic surgery most certainly called even more attention to this Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, Ryan’s patient-list read like a mix of the who’s-who of Hollywood’s A-list and Top of the Pops. Yet, away from the limelight and celebrity breast augmentations, there is the Dr. Frank Ryan Foundation.
The plastic surgeon founded the organization in 1994. It serves children and teenagers (with no funds) to remove gang tattoos, visible scars and disfiguring birthmarks. Concurrently with the surgical assistance, the organization hosts workshops in leadership training and also sponsors overnight camps as well as day camps.
The goal of the foundation is simple: It “creates an atmosphere where young people can maximize their talents and achieve new goals in life though leadership training and by being exposed to new role models and mentors who can provide a positive influence.”
Car Crash Cuts Short the Life of Dr. Frank Ryan – What About His Philanthropic Work?
Whereas the Montag plastic surgery marathon was much discussed and opened up Ryan to plenty of criticism – OMG! from Yahoo quotes E!’s Dr. 90210 (a.k.a.Robert Rey) as saying that he “wouldn’t have performed more than three surgeries on the reality star” – there was not a lot of talk about his philanthropic work.
Even now, commenters on TMZ’s site are alternatively speculating about the plastic surgeon’s sexuality, deriding his work on Heidi Montag or applauding that another “Hollywood Frankenstein” is off the job. Sadly, there are no mentions of the Dr. Frank Ryan Foundation.
