Several months ago I picked up a tablecloth at my local Bed Bath and Beyond store that was made with recycled plastic bottles. It was an amazing product, and I loved that I am able to help the environment by purchasing items that are made from recycled plastics.
Now I have found an even better product that recycles plastics, and that is the Ecosmart Poly-Flax Cutting Board, also available at Bed Bath and Beyond. I took one look at this cutting board and I knew that I had to have it for my kitchen. Even if this product were not made using recycled materials, I would have wanted it for its elegant look alone!
The Ecosmart Poly-Flax Cutting Board comes in two colors, green and brown. Since my newly remodeled kitchen has green accents, that was my color of choice. This cutting board is so attractive, it reminds me of a Corian counter top. The board itself is rectangular in shape, and measures 12″ wide by 16″ in length, with an oval shaped handle built into the top section of the board for easy carrying or hanging.
There is a paper band that comes on the cutting board that explains how this product is made. It states that the Ecosmart Poly-Flax Cutting Board is made from “100% recycled food-grade plastic and premium flax husk blend”. What made me even happier was to read that this cutting board is made in the USA! I get so tired of reading labels that say “Made in China”, and it seems like more and more of our products are being made in China. That is my personal bone of contention, and I will always support American made given the chance.
The green color is a dark sage green, which is a very popular color right now in home design. There are flecks of white and the cutting board has a slightly marbled look to it. It is a look that is very modern and attractive, and this is a conversation starter because friends always want to know where I bought it!
The Ecosmart Poly Flax Cutting Board does not hold odors and just like those tablecloths I told you about earlier, it does not stain. To clean and sanitize the cutting board, you can run it through the dishwasher. It comes out looking like new. This is a fantastic product, and it is the perfect size for my small kitchen. I love it.
Architec ecosmart is not only a US company, but they are a zero waste facility! Amazing. They actually save 60 plastic bottles from our landfills in the manufacture of just one cutting board. The label also has information on the companies “take back” program. When the time comes (if it ever comes) when you are ready to dispose of the cutting board, you can request a pre-paid shipping label to send the cutting board back to Ecosmart. This company has thought of it all, they have all the bases covered! I am very excited about this new technology, and to think that a company can make such an elegant looking kitchen tool from recycled materials is, in a word, amazing.
The Ecosmart Poly Flax Cutting Board retailed for $22.99 at my local Bed Bath and Beyond store, but I have since seen it at Amazon.com for a few dollars less. Highly recommended product for usability and for help saving our environment. Plastics are not generally biodegradable and only clog up our landfills. Plastics generate as much as 28% of our waste, it’s about time companies started to act responsibly to use these plastics to save our environment.
