Eclipse Review

by itchy fish

The much anticipated 3rd installment of the Twilight Saga, Eclipse, came out on June 30. I was at the midnight showing on June 29th with a couple of friends and I was astonished at the level of people that were there. We arrived at the theater at 10:30pm and the lobby was packed full of people waiting for the show to start. Thankfully, the movie theater started seating people in the theater. The one I went to had 15 theaters all together and they were all completely sold out. My friend dressed as Bella and we saw someone who was portraying a Volturi, although I think he dresses like that on a daily basis. There were people there with “Team Edward” shirts and others had “Team Jacob” shirts. Everyone was really friendly and we had conversations with others while waiting for the movie to start.

Even though we were in the seats for almost an hour and a half while waiting, it only seemed like a few minutes. The anticipation was making it even better! Finally, at 12 o’clock on the dot the previews started. (Just a little side note: All of the movies coming out are in 3D, which displeases me greatly). Then the movie started, with Riley Biers. It was a nice rendition and I was definitely pleased by how well they did with it. Then Bella speaking and then the shot started slowly panning into the meadow with her and Edward. I was a little taken aback by Edward and the length of the sideburns. They went a little sloppy on him in this film I thought. The beginning was nice, but it seemed that was all that was really nice. Granted, the action scenes were great, but the new director took too much out of the book and left it high and dry in space somewhere.

There were some key points that were left out of the movie from the book that could have been added, but were not. For instance, when Bella leaves to see Jacob, she does not jump on his bike right away, especially in front of Edward. Also, after Jacob kisses Bella and Edward and Jacob have a face off, Bella is supposed to want Edward to hit Jacob. These were just little things that could have been added to get the love that Bella has for Edward throughout the saga. The fight scenes between the newborn vampires and the Cullens and werewolves were very good. The CGI was spot on and I could hardly tell it was CGI.

Overall, Eclipse was a very good movie and it is definitely a must see. However, do not have your heart set on the music like the first two movies. The scores were wrong and it just did not fit the movie compared to the other two movies. Other than that, go get yourself a ticket and some popcorn and enjoy the show!
