Dr. Mehmet Oz was not in attendance to accept his Best Talk Show Host award at the Daytime Grammies in Las Vegas last evening. Dr. Oz and his beautiful wife and four kids were in Italy celebrating their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. So big congratulations to him for an excellent first year of television programming. He has sure come a long way in only one year.
Dr. Oz is Vice-Chair and Professor of Surgery at Columbia University. He directs the Cardiovascular Institute and Complementary Medicine Program at New York Presbyterian Hospital in addition to hosting his own audience interactive program. He is dedicated to eliminating obesity, heart disease and type 2 Diabetes through wellness info that he dispenses on his program and through the several books he has written with his colleague, Dr. Michael Roizen.
If you are not familiar with Dr. Oz; he was a featured health expert on the Oprah Winfrey Show for five seasons and was always a welcome guest by both Oprah and her enormous fanbase. Dr. Phil and Rachel Ray both also got their start from appearing regularly on her program and now their daily programs are both going strong.
Dr. Oz regularly has members of his studio audience don a white jacket and purple gloves and touch real body parts and describe to the audience in the studio and at home exactly how they feel. Some of these parts have been riddled with diseases that could have been prevented by better diets or eliminating bad habits, while a comparative specimen was healthy. It gives us a real life way to compare what happens with our body and what the consequences of bad living can do to it. People who come to Dr. Oz appear on his program for various help from obesity, to seriously addicted drug addicts. As long as they want help; he will help them and hold them accountable.
Some of the examples that recently appeared on his show were obese people who needed to find a new lifestyle that they could easily adapt and actually live the changes. He has successfully guided people from morbid obesity to a thin new life through his dieting suggestions and lifestyle changes. One of the suggestions was to reduce the intake of salt in one’s diet. A chef who used massive amounts of salt in his own diet as well as in his restaurant, found a way through Dr. Oz’s suggestions to reduce his salt intake to normal levels and just by following suggestions on the show lost large amounts of weight and now is even marketing his very own salt substitute mixture. Many others have appeared on his Truth Tube; which gives the person’s medical info and reveals their “real age” that their body believes they are. Once these people follow a better diet and lifestyle, they appear again on the program and nearly always the results are amazing.
So congrats to Dr. Oz and his entire production staff on this very prestigious award, and here is hoping you receive many more awards. You keep us healthier with constant reminders that we do not have to accept ourselves the way we are; but to be better, healthier and live a lot longer with a better quality of life.
