Let’s face it: a day at the beach calls for waterproof mascara. And, not just any waterproof mascara: one that actually goes on well and stays all day. Because I love the regular washable Lash Out from L’Oreal Paris, I decided to put the waterproof formula to the test. In short, I love the product and would definitely recommend its use for the fun water-filled days of summer.
First Things First: Does the Waterproof Really Work? No Smears Even When You’ve Been Fully Submerged?
Is the waterproof mascara really 100%, without question, waterproof? I don’t know. Is it water-resistant enough for you? Absolutely.
Even after repeatedly going down into and coming up from the water–on multiple occasions–I did not experience any running or smearing of my mascara. And, in case you’re worried about human tears interacting with the eyelash product adversely, I will also admit that I tried that kind of water out, too: still no smears. In my experience, the same can’t be said for the washable concoction.
Does the Regular Lash Out and the Waterproof Formula Look Fairly Similar When On?
Yes. When it comes to cosmetics, formula consistency is not always a given, but both Lash Out versions are very similar to one another. Both apply in the same smooth way, providing long and elegant results. If I were just looking at the end product opposed to the tubes themselves–gold with a blue stripe for waterproof versus gold with a red stripe for regular–I would not be able to tell a difference, which is obviously good news for some and bad news for others. If you hate the way the original formula looks on your lashes, you’re probably not going to love the waterproof kind either.
Besides the Wearing Well Regardless of the Elements, What’s the Biggest Difference Between the Two?
Although I absolutely love the look and wear of the waterproof formula, when I go to take off the mascara, I remember what it is that I’m wearing. Because I use a generic drugstore liquid eye makeup remover not specifically designed for dealing with waterproof products, successfully removing the product generally requires applying more liquid and pressing harder than when removing its original counterpart. It’s not a bad trade-off by any means, but I do experience a notable difference between the two in that regard.
Would You Recommend Exclusively Wearing the Waterproof Lash Out, Leaving the Original Formula Behind?
Since the waterproof Lash Out is harder to remove, I’ll probably stick to only using it when I predictably will get wet. But, if your summer adventures–and beyond–are hard to foresee, you may be interested in keeping the waterproof tube close by. Have fun!
The waterproof edition comes in Black, Black Brown and Soft Black, retailing for $8.49 at Walgreens.
