We usually go to our physician for a check up to try and find out what medical condition we have and what treatment we can take/do. Aside from that, you can also have follow ups so that the doctor can evaluate how you have recovered. However, a visit to a doctor’s office can be really disappointing and it can happen a lot of times. Here are some annoying situations at a doctor’s office visit.
Have you experienced arriving early and finding out that the doctor is not yet in and you’ll have to wait for at least an hour? This happens to all of my doctors (except my regular cardiologist) and I get really angry since the secretary told us to come in early. For example, one of my doctors was supposedly in his office by 9 in the morning and he came in at 11!
The secretary told us to wait because the doctor was doing his rounds. He was checking up on his patients who were admitted at that time. I mean, why not do it after office hours? You know you have patients waiting for you at your office and you still lag behind. Good thing I was the first patient since there were already 6 of us waiting.
One of the problems is that most of these doctors accept patients on a first come first serve basis. Only a few of them would request appointments. So you have to come in early to get ahead of the other patients. Usually, patients would arrive on time so you have to be there at least 30 minutes earlier or else your waiting time could be ridiculously long. Just imagine, the doctor comes in late and as soon as he/she arrives, you have to wait until he/she finishes dealing with the patients who came in before you. That could take hours and your sanity.
Another thing that really irritates me is when doctors take 30 minutes or more per patient. I really start to wonder why it’s taking too long. There’s no surgery going on but it took that long. You can even hear them laugh. So if you have 4 patients in front of you then I wish you luck. You’d probably be waiting for no less than an hour and a half.
Aside from the doctors, sometimes the other patients would give you a headache. Some of them would try to talk their way to just get in front of the line. If it’s a first come first serve basis, then the first one who came in should be the one to be seen by the doctor first. If only I could tie them on their seats. On the other hand, you can actually talk to them while waiting. It’s a nice way to meet people and pass up time. Who knows you could meet a new friend.
Sometimes, it’s the secretary’s fault. Let’s say you waited for an hour. You’re already tired of waiting then the secretary tells you that the doctor won’t be in. Or, if a friend of the doctor comes in, the secretary would favor him/her over the other patients. If it’s a family member maybe I could let it pass.
Well, those are just among the frustrations that I’ve personally experienced when I visit doctors’ offices. That’s the reason why every time I go to the doctors’ office, I usually prepare myself for a long wait. I also employ emotion control since I easily get ticked off when I have to wait long.
