Most people agree that life is too short. Most people dislike the idea of getting old, and I couldn’t really understand why someone would *want* to get old. It was only until recently that people are truly getting old. In previous generations, not many people would live to be 65 years old due to diseases and infections that were so common.
Do you have what it takes to extend your life? Most people have a lot of bad habits which will not help them age well in the long run, myself included (although some adjustments have been made in my personal life such as eating healthier) I’m not going to bore you with tips on eating healthy and sleeping well, everyone knows about that. You should know that only 30% of your longevity depends on genetics, so it is mostly up to you how well you’ll age (when you don’t consider things you don’t exactly have control over such as accidents)
How good is your attitude? Be honest with yourself. Serenity and optimism will help you to age better than negativity and pessimism. Do you consider your life stressful? You should find a way to lessen the stress in your life if you want to have less wrinkles, aches and pains by the time you are 70 years old (if you are close to that age its never too late. Remember what I said about keeping a good attitude!) Do you find yourself angry, sad, or scared a fair amount or more? Denial of these emotions is not healthy since they are needed to combat danger and be socially accepted. The impact of these stress hormones do take a toll on your heart as well as the immune system.
Are you a lonely person? If you’re not, then you’re on the right track. If you are lonesome, the time for you to become more social should be soon, if not right now. People with a lot of friends live longer than those who have few friendships. You’re mom probably advised you of all the points that I made so far, but she probably didn’t tell you that these things do relate directly to aging.
This is the first generation not expected to live longer. This is mainly because of our problems with obesity and lessened activity. Maybe you should do some walking for your errands rather than driving? How about you eat some mashed potatos rather than french fries? I don’t plan to always implement the better ways. It’s not like anyone is truly perfect.
The life expectancy of Hawaii is 80 years old, which is higher than any US state. I wonder why this is? Perhaps it could have something to do with being a tropical paradise. It is not a poverty stricken island, unlike some places. Maybe their attitudes are naturally better because of their good weather and beautiful scenery? Who knows. Ugly things can bring out ugly attitudes and behavior in people, and one thing leads to another. Think about everything I said in this article and decide if you want to start increasing your life expectancy. Perhaps your good attitude will rub off onto me thus improving my attitude which will lead to greater success and serenity in my life? You never know.
