Who among us can resist the allure of the color Tiffany blue? Tiffany blue is the signature color of the legendary Tiffany & Company founded in 1837 by Charles Lewis Tiffany in New York City.
In researching creating a Tiffany blue wedding card box, I discovered that it is not so easy to purchase fabric in Tiffany blue as Tiffany blue is a proprietary color of Tiffany & Company. It’s funny how some things come about, at breakfast I was talking to my mom about being discouraged in finding suitable materials in Tiffany blue, when I noticed that the paper napkin I was holding in my hand was in the coveted Tiffany blue that I was searching for. Aha, now I had the inspiration needed to start looking for other materials. After visiting several fabric stores and coming up cold, my mother suggested I pay a visit to the local home improvement stores paint department and see what they had to offer in Tiffany blue. This was helpful and I picked up color cards that held promise in creating the Tiffany blue wedding card box. Still not totally inspired, I visited A.C. Moore Arts and Crafts store and purchased materials in something close to Tiffany blue. In the end, I did not use the paint color cards. The Tiffany blue wedding card box that I envisioned is made using the closest colors I could buy in A.C. Moore Arts and Crafts store.
My list of materials that were purchased at A.C. Moore Arts and Crafts store are as follows:
1 roll of decorative ribbon, 7/8 inch wide
1 roll of grosgrain ribbon, 1 ½ inch wide
1 sheet of glitter scrapbook paper
1 package of seed 8/0 beads in ice
1 floral stalk of white beads
I can of Elmer’s Craft Bond Spray Adhesive
Additional materials that I had on hand:
Shoe box with removable lid
Double-sided tape, ¼ inch wide
4-6 sheets of heavyweight white borderless matte Epson paper
Paper dinner napkins
Steps to assemble the Tiffany blue wedding card box:
Step 1: Line inside of box and lid with the heavyweight white paper.
Step 2: From glitter scrapbook paper cut strips 1 ½ inch wide and do the same with the heavyweight white paper.
Step 3: With glitter paper and white paper create a basket weave pattern for the top of the box and adhesive spray to the lid.
Step 4: Apply decorative ribbon around the side of the lid.
Step 5: With ¼ inch double-sided tape, tape around edges of top of lid.
Step 6: Pull off backing of double-sided tape and shake out seed beads onto the sticky tape around all four sides.
Step 7: Snip off white beads from the floral stock and using craft glue adhere beads onto the Tiffany blue glitter paper.
Step 7: Adhesive spray paper napkins to four sides of the box.
Step 8: Adhesive spray 1 ½ inch grosgrain ribbon to center of box as if tying a bow but without the actual bow.
The Tiffany blue wedding card box project took between 3-4 hours to complete including the design. Your time may be shorter. Optional ideas: decorate the inside of the box and lid as inspired or add protective felt to the bottom of the wedding card box. I opted not to cut a slot into the top of the box. The reason for this decision was to keep any cards from falling out of the slot during transportation and to make the card box a memory box after the wedding day.
My wishes are you have as much fun as I had making the Tiffany blue wedding card box. Make as directed or be inspired to create your own version of my unique Tiffany blue wedding card box.
