This is a very quick and simple DIY peacock style wedding boutonniere for your peacock feather themed wedding. It is very easy to go overboard when it comes to peacock feathers. Remember, less is more and that is why this project is so simple. All you are going to need for each boutonniere is 1-2 peacock feathers wrapped in ribbon and a pin to attach them. Try not to be tempted to stick a lot of flowers with them, it will be distracting.
-Peacock feathers, 1 to 2 per boutonniere
-Coordinating ribbon (but I also think copper wire could look really beautiful in lieu of the ribbon)
-Hot glue gun
-Hat pins or safety pins
Cut the peacock feathers to the desired length. Make sure you don’t cut them too short, measure twice, cut once. If you are using copper wire, leave a little extra length at the bottom because you are going to have a more rustic looking boutonniere, you also won’t be needing the hot glue gun if you are using copper wire because the wire will hold the feather(s) in place nicely. If you are using two peacock feathers, try to fan them out a little so both feathers will be visible. Put a spot of hot glue on the front of the feather a little above the bottom and glue the ribbon end. Pull the ribbon to the back covering the ends of the feathers, then start wrapping the ribbon around. Put a couple drops of hot glue every once in a while (preferably on the back side so any mess-ups will be out of sight) to make sure everything holds tight and stays that way. Tuck in the loose end and glue it there. Pin it on and you’re all done.
Expected Make Time
This project only takes five to ten minutes. It’s cheap, quick, and easy and makes a beautiful boutonniere for the groom and all of his groomsmen (maybe even a few for family members).
I paid a little over $1 per feather at my local craft store for peacock feathers and bought out their entire stock which was surprisingly small. If you are having a peacock feather themed wedding you are going to need a lot of peacock feathers so you might as well buy them online in bulk and save money. If you buy from WholesaleFloral.com, you can get a 100 pack of 30″-40″ peacock feathers for $40. They also have basic DIY wedding supplies for pretty cheap here and you can get an additional discount for purchases over $100 so it might be worth it to see if they have other supplies you can use for your wedding.
