When you’re planning an extended stay Disney vacation in Orlando, you may need a few days off from the Magic Kingdom and other destinations at the resort to recharge and rest. Fortunately, there are several places to relax and take it all in near the theme parks.
Whether you’re interested in shopping, hanging out by the pool, or just relaxing at the spa, here are a few ideas for taking the day off from Disney parks on your Disney vacation in Orlando:
Enjoy Some R&R at the Spa
In addition to the onsite spas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs and Disney’s Grand Floridian, you can enjoy some rest and relaxation at a day spa within a short drive from the Disney parks. Head to FaceHaven Day Spa in Hunters Creek, about fifteen minutes from the parks for a rejuvenating facial or relaxing massage. Reflections Spa & Salon is located less than three miles from the parks and offers customized massage and body treatments. You can also try the Woodhouse Day Spa in Dr. Phillips for a luxury spa service.
Catch a Movie in Downtown Disney
You don’t need a special ticket for access to Downtown Disney, so head over to the AMC Theater to watch the latest movie and relax for a few hours. You’ll be far enough away from the rides and chaos of the theme parks to make the most of your experience, and can take a walk through the Downtown Disney Marketplace to do some shopping.
Shop at the Mall at Millenia
The Mall at Millenia is about a twenty-minute drive north from the Disney resort area and home to several luxury stores, high-end department stores, boutique shops and a giant food court. You can plan on spending the entire day shopping and dining at the mall, and can even catch some live music on certain nights of the week. The Mall at Millenia is located at 4200 Conroy Road in Orlando. Call I407) 363-3555 for more information.
Spend a Day at the Pool
Most hotels and resorts in and around the Walt Disney World Resort have pools, and some have a tiki bar or poolside bar that serves up cocktails and snacks all day. Plan to spend the entire day relaxing by the pool, and pick up some picnic food from an area restaurant or your hotel. Just make sure to wear plenty of sunscreen and keep a stock of water on hand.
Explore the International Drive Area
If you have a lot of energy and want to do some touristy things on your day off from the Disney parks, head to International Drive to shop for souvenirs, play at the arcade center, or enjoy some gourmet dining at one of the themed restaurants and bistros. This area is busy year round and offers something for everyone in the traveling party.
