The disappearance of Kyron Horman has made him everyone’s child. Since the second-grader went missing June 4th after attending a school science fair in Portland, Ore., he has been the primary focus of a very heart-wrenching investigation.
Kyron Horman has Become Everyone’s Child – Kyron’s Circumstances
Skyline Elementary School was having their science fair exhibition on June 4th and 7 year-old Kyron was excited to show off his Red-Eyed Tree Frog project, complete with a poster and diorama. He and his father had worked on it before the event and Kyron was excited for the day to arrive.
Everything seemed fine until he was suppose to come home from the bus in the afternoon. He was last seen around 8:45 a.m. by his step-mother, who said she saw him last walking to his classroom. Later, it was learned that the teacher had marked him as absent all day. Between the hours of 8:45 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. the little boy’s whereabouts weren’t on anyone’s radar. Immediately, authorities were called into investigate the missing child.

Kyron Horman has Become Everyone’s Child – Kyron’s Gentle Nature
Kyron Horman’s photos say it all. His photos are of a sweet natured child with an interest in all things around him. His big smile has touched everyone. Who would want to hurt his young boy? What seemed to be a normal school activity turned into a true tragedy by losing a loving child without even a trace of what happened.
Capt. Mike Shults of the Multnomah Sheriff’s Office in Portland described Kyron as a loving and warm boy. He shows enthusiasm for the people and things he loves. He enjoys what most little boys do, according to the letter Capt. Shults read when sharing with the public who Kyron is. Kyron enjoys his Hot Wheels toys, his art work, his pets, and was practicing fishing for this coming summer.
His characteristics and vulnerable age have made him someone the community loves and wants to still protect.
Kyron Horman has Become Everyone’s Child – a Wake Up Call
Searchers have been looking for Kyron around the clock, with no clue as to his whereabouts. The missing boy was classified as “endangered and missing,” but the case shifted to a “criminal investigation’ on Sunday.
This tragic case has led to a drastic wake up call to all parents and children. Kyron was preparing for an exciting day to display his red-eyed tree frog project at a science fair, only to wind up missing. The entire situation is a frightening reality of what exists of harm coming to children – those who need us most to keep them safe.
Kyron is everyone’s child now. His life has impacted ours in every way. We all have children, grandchildren, and nephews/nieces his age. It hits home for a lot of us who want the best of our children.
Another reason the disappearance of Kyron has made him everyone’s child? Kyron should have never been overlooked that day he went to school and somehow he has been failed. As a society, we feel heart sick over a little boy who was somewhere we thought he was safe. We see how Kyron was the victim of not only a horrific incident, but the victim of no one being able to save him. It’s the thought he was alone in a bad situation when no one observed something was wrong. As we went along our daily lives, he was going through something on June 4th. No one knows what, but it wasn’t something he should have.
