According to TMZ, Mel Gibson’s lawyers say they have tons of evidence Gibson’s ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, tried to extort money from Gibson in exchange for handing over the now-famous audio tapes of Gibson cursing at her. When Gibson refused to give her the money saying “the gravy train” had left the station, Grigorieva then got angry and gave the tapes to the new media, even though a judge in the case had ruled she couldn’t release the tapes. Oksana Grigorieva however says she wasn’t the one who released the tapes and didn’t receive any money for them. In fact, she doesn’t know who did release the tapes. Oh please. Pull the other leg, it’s got bells on it.
Put yourself in Oksana Grigorieva’s position. You’re separated from one of the world’s biggest money machines and you want to continue to live in the style you’ve become accustomed to. You also want your child, parented by the money machine, to be set up for life. So, you tape Mel Gibson (aka the money machine), screaming and threatening you, in the hopes he’ll give you a wad of cash for keeping the tapes quiet. But, surprise, surprise, Mel Gibson says – Nope, sorry, no more money for you, this money machine is all tapped out – but you still have the tapes, and now a judge says, under penalty of law, you cannot release them to the news media.
If you’re stupid, you put the tapes in an unsafe place and they get stolen. The person who stole them then sells them to the gossip media who, by the way says they didn’t pay any money for the tapes (Again, you might want to pull the leg with bells on it just a bit harder. It’s being overused this week). And now you’re up sh*t creek, without a paddle.
Weirdly though, we’re all watching Oksana Grigorieva paddling along just fine and so are Mel Gibson’s lawyers, who have asked Judge Scott Gordon, a California judge, to issue an order allowing them to go through Grigorieva’s personal effects (phones, computer, text messages etc), looking for anything that could link her to money being exchanged for the tapes. Gibson and his lawyers say they believe Grigorieva was given a massive payout for the tapes (could be in the millions of dollars) and they want to be able to prove it.
To many of the rest of us, who’ve been watching Oksana Grigorieva’s recent calculated behavior, the story she doesn’t know who released the tapes to the media doesn’t jive either. When she made the Gibson tapes, she knew they were her ticket to lots and lots of money, so she would have kept them under lock and key away from someone who might take them to sell and away from Mel Gibson who might try to come and get them.
So to have us believe they simply up and walked away and are now being aired on every gossip station on the planet is something she had nothing to do with……….. Boy, my leg is getting really tired.
NOTE: For those who don’t know, the phrase “Pull the other leg, it’s got bells on it” is an old British idiom which means, “Are you playing me for the fool, I don’t believe you”, and comes from the old English jester’s (or fool’s) costume with bells on the hat, arms and legs.
