Desserts Including Ice Cream

by itchyfish

For me, ice cream is delicious and satisfying all by itself – for the most part. I can only think of really two instances where ice cream is put with another item of food and the dessert actually gets better. Tempura Ice Cream and French Toast with Ice Cream. It’s like heaven. Imagine a dough boy from a carnival wrapped around still frozen ice cream. Yummy.

Tempura Fried Ice Cream

Ingredients:
2 cups sifted flour (this is very important)
3 egg yolks
2 cups ice water
oil for frying
4 ice cream balls, any flavor, frozen very very hard
confectioners’ sugar to sprinkle on top

The first step is to scoop out ice cream balls and put them in the freezer. Do this at least an hour in advance if not longer. The ice cream needs to be rock hard so it won’t melt when fried.

Next, get your oil in your deep skillet or deep fat fryer. Heat to 300 degrees.

Now for making the batter. You want to make sure your flour is very well sifted. I recommend sifting it a few times. Leave the flour alone for now and move on to the wet ingredients.

Combine your egg yolks and water together in a bowl big enough to hold the flour and egg mixture. Some people recommend doing this over ice, and others don’t mention it, so I leave this up to you.

Beat the egg yolk and water mixture, then slowly add the flour. Keep stirring, making sure to get everything incorporated as you mix it, but don’t over do it. If you work the flour too hard the flour batter will get gummy.

When your oil is heated to the correct temperature, take the ice cream balls out and dip them in your batter as quickly as you can. Now carefully but quickly put the battered balls (1 or 2 maximum) into the oil.

You’ll want to fry these until golden brown. I cannot tell you the specific amount of time it takes, because it varies. Make sure to top off this decadent dessert with your confectioners’ sugar. Also, you’ll want to serve them pretty fast so the ice cream won’t melt or the batter become cold. Trust me, it happens.. And now to enjoy a wonderfully amazing dessert with ice cream.

If you want to dress up the recipe you could make smaller ice cream balls, put 1 or 2 in a martini glass or something else stylish like a small decorative bowl. You can also buy a topping sauce like chocolate or caramel and drizzle that on top. You could also add whipped cream and a few cherries if you so choose.

French Toast with Ice Cream

Ingredients:
Two pieces of bread
One egg
1/4 cup milk
1/2 tsp cinnamon
Dash of vanilla extract
1 tsp butter or margarine
Ice cream

First off, you’ll want to begin heating a frying pan on medium to medium high while adding the butter. I do this first because my stove takes a little time to heat up, but you can do this as a second step.

Next, whisk your egg, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla extract together. Put the slices of bread into this mixture and let them soak some of it in while your pan is heating.

Now that your frying pan is nice and hot, you’ll want to transfer the bread into the pan. Cook for about 3 to 5 minutes per side, or until they brown on each side.

Once you take your french toast out, put a scoop of any flavor ice cream on one, then top it with the other piece of french toast. For a less messy approach, simply put the ice cream on top. For added flavor, you can drizzle any ice cream topping or syrup to your masterpiece. Serve and thoroughly enjoy.
