I just love shopping for and trying new shampoos and conditioners for my hair. I often have several bottles of shampoos and conditioners that I have decided to try or reuse due to sales, coupons or other promotions.
My hair is long and is extremely soft and touchable. Because I have a healthy diet and take a vitamin mineral supplement daily, as well as using enriching and nutrient rich shampoos and conditioners, I can say I have healthy hair. Especially because I am 52, I feel like my “hair age” is much younger than my real age.
A healthy diet is essential for hair and nails as well as the rest of your body. All body cells need nutrients and moisture, such as healthy fats, to function at their best and look their best. The hair is no different. As a matter of fact, lack of luster, shine and easily broken hair is often a sign of nutritional deficit. Keeping your hair trimmed and limiting its exposure to the sun’s damaging ultra violet rays on a daily basis protect hair from damage and keep it look soft and healthy.
I have tried many different shampoos and conditioners and came up with a general list, in no particular order, of some of my favorites and why. I especially like only very lightly scented products. No overwhelming perfumey fragrances need apply I won’t pay ridiculously high salon prices, either. So these are all very budget friendly and affordable and often on sale enough to stock up on your favorites.
I color my hair, so many of the products I use are for color treated hair. These types of products can be used by anyone because products for color treated hair are very gentle. A shampoo and/or conditioner for color treated hair can help maintain your color and not wash it out prematurely.
Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo– 12oz, about $1.50 at mass marketers, and drug stores. A clear, slightly fragranced clearing shampoo, this is a budget friendly, as well as useful, shampoo that will gently clean hair, and wash out styling product build up.
Sunsilk De Frizz Conditioner– 12 oz. about $4, mass marketers. This silkening conditioner is a great softening and defrizzing conditioner and also a good buy.
L’Oreal EverPure Sulfate Free Color Care Shampoo and Conditioner– 8.5 oz for about $10 at drugstores. This is a wonderful shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair. It is all natural, nicely scented with rosemary and mint and leaves your hair very soft, silky, shiny and manageable. Since it is sulfate free, it is very gentle on hair and the hair cuticle, and is environmentally responsible, as well.
Avon Naturals Ginseng and Bamboo Replenishing Shampoo and Conditioner– 10 oz, $4 from avon.com/jcaruana. This light, naturally fragranced shampoo and conditioner is a pleasure to use. It leaves hair silky soft and easy to style. The scent is very reminiscent of “nature” in general.
Trader Joe’s Nourish Spa Balancing Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner– 12 oz, $3 at Trader Joe’s stores nationwide. Talk about fragrance! This is the “cleanest” scented shampoo and conditioner I have ever used. It really has a soft scent that can only be described as clean. You have to try it to believe it and at that price! No joking! It leaves your clean and soft and is made with organic botanicals.
Dove Damage Therapy Color Repair Shampoo and Conditioner– 12 oz, $5 at mass marketers and drug stores. Dove products are very user friendly, in general. This particular shampoo, is also a great addition to my list. It does everything a great shampoo and conditioner should do and leaves you feeling refreshed and clean.
