Daytime Emmy Awards in Las Vegas

by itchyfish

The 2010 Daytime Emmy Awards was held last night at the Las Vegas Hilton. Regis Philbin hosted the event, his jokes about “how nice it must be to win something” becoming more and more tiresome as the evening progressed.

In true awards show style, glamorous presenters delivered hastily memorized jokes with bad comic timing. Holding the Daytime Emmys’ in sin city however, did provide acts by Las Vegas entertainers such as Blue Man Group, Lion King Cast and Cirque de Soleil.

Aside from the regular stable of awards, there was also a tribute to Dick Clarke and American Bandstand which allowed for a musical medley from former Bandstand performers, such as Chubby Checker, Marie Osmond and the Spinners.

The Daytime Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Agnes Nixon by Susan Lucci, who stars as Erica Kane in Nixon’s, All MY Children. Agnes Nixon is known as the Queen of Daytime for her success in creating/writing soap operas such as All My Children, which this year celebrates 40 years on the air, and One Life to Live.

Cancelled Daytime Soap Opera, As the World Turns received a minute long tribute of clips from the soap opera that first aired in 1956. While actors from Guiding Light, another recently cancelled soap opera still had nominees in some of the categories, it was As the World Turns evening as the soap opera took awards for both Outstanding Lead Actor and Outstanding Lead Actress.
