David Hasselhoff roast material is obviously easy to make. That’s why a David Hasselhoff roast was held on Comedy Central last night, as every David Hasselhoff roast joke possible was made – and bleeped. Every year, Comedy Central tears apart B-list icons that have been joked about endlessly for decades. In this case, the target was the main male sex symbol on Baywatch, an actor embraced by Germany, and a YouTube sensation. All of that and more made the Hasselhoff roast a no-holds-barred, NC-17 level affair.
The expected collection of celebrities, famous friends and comic staples were set to tear ‘The Hoff’ a new one. Veteran roast performers Jeffery Ross, Lisa Lampanelli, Greg Giraldo and Gilbert Gottfried joined with host Seth MacFarlane, Pamela Anderson, Hulk Hogan, George Hamilton Jerry Springer and more to pay “tribute”
The David Hasselhoff roast was filled with all the Baywatch, Knight Rider, Germany and hamburger jokes others have made for years. In this case, they were made with decidedly R-rated language, and spread around to the entire panel.
Although this was a David Hasselhoff roast, the actual roasters got it just as bad, as they usual do. Former roast victim Pamela Anderson was a frequent target, while George Hamilton got a dozen more tan jokes, Seth MacFarlane was accused of ripping off SouthPark and The Simpsons again, and Hulk Hogan was even the victim of gay jokes.
But the David Hasselhoff roast was about “The Hoff” and his latest run through the ringer. Given all the endless trash talk and routines about him over the decades, he had a thick skin developed years ago. Like all of those who subject themselves to these specials, he is usually the first to joke about himself as well.
Comedy Central has already torn apart infamous icons like Anderson, Joan Rivers, William Shatner, Larry the Cable Guy, Flavor Flav and many others. These figures all know they are jokes to many people, and play along with it as much as anyone else. Hasselhoff was no different, bantering with the roasters and even singing to KITT at the end.
Now that the David Hasselhoff roast has aired, the likes of Lampanelli, Giraldo and Ross will go into hibernation until next year’s special. Hasselhoff will go back to actually searching for work, while facing jokes that don’t get their own special.
As for Comedy Central, it will look for another constantly roasted celebrity to target next year. Perhaps those in the David Hasselhoff roast can serve as future targets someday, since many of them fit the qualifications.
