Dancing with the Stars burned up the dance floor with the Argentine Tango and Samba this week and wrapped with a Swing Dance Marathon where the remaining contestants danced head to head while being judged side by side simultaneously. With seven couples remaining in the competition, there is little room for error from this point forward on Dancing with the Stars. After the departure of Kate Gosselin last week, it’s anyone’s guess who the audience will target for elimination this week.
Jake Pavelka and partner Chelsie Hightower led the way performing the Samba. After earning their highest marks last week, the judge’s expectations were high for this duo heading into tonight’s competition. While these two are fun to watch and continue to improve, Jake’s stumble during this performance wasn’t lost on the judges. The pair was criticized for lacking bounce and rhythm, earning them a total score of 21 for their efforts. These two are going to really have to step it up if they hope to keep dancing.
Evan Lysacek and partner Anna Trebunskaya hoped to return to the top of the leaderboard this week on DWTS with their Samba. Somehow, in spite of sustaining a mild concussion during their practices this week, Evan was still able to spin like a top during their performance. The audience booed the judges as they reported this as being the pair’s worst dance. Harsh! Carrie Ann actually said it best when she stated that sometimes a couple is up against the dance itself in this competition and that is what happened here. They were still fun to watch and the audience gave them plenty of love. Evan and Anna earned a total of 21, which was their lowest score so far.
Next up on Dancing with the Stars, Niecy Nash did her best to control her feet with partner Louis Van Amstel as they danced the Argentine Tango. These two have definitely improved and although Niecy was over-thinking her footwork a bit, the judges enjoyed this performance rewarding them with a total of 21 out of 30 points.
Erin Andrews and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who struggled through Erin’s tendency to over-analyze her moves, churned out another Samba. Maks swears he will be institutionalized at the end of this season of Dancing with the Stars after dealing with Erin’s over-thinking constantly. Luckily, the pair’s struggles don’t convey in their performances. Judge Len Goodman hissed that he was going to give Erin a 7 this week, just like every other week, because she isn’t giving him what he wants. Bruno and Carrie Ann agreed with the audience saying they thought Erin and Maks had nailed it. Face it, Len is pissed because Maksim took his shirt off and the crowd loved it. Thanks to 9’s from Carrie Ann and Bruno, the duo managed a combined score of 25. Sorry Len, you were overruled!
After dropping the ball in the Quickstep last week, Chad Ochocinco and partner Cheryl Burke found their rhythm once again with this week’s Argentine Tango. These two seemed at ease on the floor once again and the Dancing with the Stars judges smiled upon them for a change. They were complimented for holding clean lines, precise footwork, passion, and arrogance-all elements expected in the Tango. This performance earned them solid 8’s across the board giving them a grand total of 24 points. I like these two for potentially winding up in the top three. Do men that watch football vote? I know their wives are watching!
Dancing with the Stars dynamic duo Nicole Scherzinger and partner Derek Hough were feeling the pressure heading into tonight’s Samba after their high score of 29 last week. All of that anxiety seemed to drift away as these two shook their booties from one end of the dance floor to the other. I am not sure what judge Len Goodman was watching, but Carrie Ann, Bruno, and everyone else thought it was volcanic. In spite of the fact that Len slammed them with a 7, they still gyrated their way to a total score of 26. Shizam!
After finding themselves in the bottom two on Dancing with the Stars last week once again, Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitewood had a lot riding on their Argentine Tango. This performance was okay, but I’m not sure that it was enough. The judges rewarded them with a total of 22. This placed them ahead of Niecy, Jake, and Evan for the night, but the DWTS audience has a habit of not showing them much love with their votes. My guess would be that as popularity contests go, Pamela’s days are likely numbered. That question will be answered on the results show Tuesday night.
For the first time ever on Dancing with the Stars, all of the contestants were brought together onto the stage simultaneously for a Swing Dance Marathon. They were judged side by side at once and eliminated one by one until only one pair remained-Derek and Nicole. I know everyone was shocked!
Now that Kate Gosselin has been eliminated from the competition, it will be interesting to see how the audience votes with the remaining contestants. I’m going to be surprised if Pamela Anderson is able to scrape up enough votes to stick around now that Kate is gone. She may dance better than Niecy Nash and have a higher score than Jake Pavelka, but she is clearly not liked as well by the viewers at home. On Dancing with the Stars that oftentimes earns you a ticket home. See you after the elimination!
