Early on we learned that Nicole and Derek were safe while Chad and Cheryl were in the bottom two. Later Evan and Anna and Erin and Max were saved, leaving Niecy and Louie in the bottom two. Niecy was upbeat and bubbly even in defeat. She thanked her partner Louie Van Amstel for shaping her into a dancer. In true Niecy style, she requested upbeat music for her final dance and went out partying.
Where last week’s elimination show was entertaining, this week’s fell flat. The musical talent went back to the so-so performance level that seems to be the norm and the skits weren’t very funny tonight.
Len opened the show with his weekly critique of yesterday’s performances. This was capped off by Derek and Nicole’s encore performance of their 50’s Paso Doble that earned a perfect 30 last night.
The Gipsy Kings Flamenco-ed up a Spanish version of Disney’s Toys Story 3’sYou’ve Got a Friend in Me. Dancing with the Stars’ professionals Tony Dovolani, Dmitry Chaplin, Kym Johnson and Cheryl Burke took the floor for a Latin number that sharp and compelling. Later they sang Bamboleo from their debut album.
Kenny Mayne, Len Goodman and a blonde Jerry Rice brought Dance Center back to the ballroom as they critiqued each star. The skit was lame. The jokes were dull and not memorable.
UC San Diego’s dance team consisted of 5 couples performing a Samba. While entertaining, the groups’ lines were out of sync and the moves were simple. They needed a little more oomph in the routine. They scored 24. That will be combined with votes to determine who will go to the finals.
Purdue’s team went next with four couples dancing the Mamba. Some timing issues and not enough patterns in the routine were the only errors. It was rhythmic and crisp and earned a 22.
The best two college teams will face off on the final night with winners being selected by the judges only.
