Since this is a blog, there will be some personal opinion thrown in.
Who’s Left?
I boycotted Dancing with the Stars last week, I just couldn’t stand to watch Kate dance another undeserved dance on the show! So I was super happy to hear that Kate was eliminated next week! Since I didn’t watch, I don’t know their scores, but I did get in a good 40 minute exercise video during the show :)
– Evan Lysacek with Anna Trebunskaya
– Nicole Scherzinger with Derek Hough
– Erin Andrews with Maksim Chmerkovskiy
– Pamela Anderson with Damian Whitewood
– Jake Pavelka with Chelsie Hightower
– Niecy Nash with Louis Van Amstel
– Chad Ochocinco with Cheryl Burke
Now on with the Show!
Tonight each star will perform either a Samba or Argentine Tango and also competing in a Swing Dancing competition. That should be interesting!
Jake Pavelka with Chelsie Hightower were up first with a Samba and hoped to keep their high spot after earning 3rd place last week. Jake says he knows he’s not as good as Evan and Nicole but thinks he can catch up with practice! Jake was concentrating a lot on his facial expressions, maybe even more than the dancing. The couple spun into the stairs at one point but they recovered. It’s obvious Jake doesn’t know how to make a “sexy” face, ha. Vienna was in the audience tonight.
The Judges: Len said he saw more confident and polished but he was lacking some rhythm. Bruno said it also lacked bounce and he didn’t wiggle correctly. Carrie Ann said she can tell he’s pushing himself to the max, but he needs to connect better to the music. Scores: CA – 7, L – 7, B – 7, Total: 21/30.
Evan Lysacek with Anna Trebunskaya also had to do the Samba. Anna was trying to push Evan to move his hips but it just looked kind of silly in reharsal. Anna and Evan also spent some time practicing their Swing Dance. Anna tried to flip him over her back and really slammed his head into the ground! Really, he is like 2 feet taller than her, not a smart move. It turned out he had a mild concussion but otherwise was ok. Evan didn’t let a little concussion stop him from bringing his A game tonight. He showed that he has rhythm and was starting to look more like a pro.
The Judges: Bruno said Evan has good lyrical lines but Samba requires a different kind of action. Carrie Ann thought Evan “lost the battle with the Samba” because his lines didn’t suit this dance. Len said it didn’t suit him but seemed to think it’s just the one dance and he’ll do better with others. Scores: CA – 7, L – 7, B – 7, Total: 21/30.
Niecy Nash with Louis Van Amstel were the first to do an Argentine Tango and wanted to break tradition by making it humorous. Louis wanted Niecy to focus on the technique to prove she can hit the steps. Niecy started off the dance by eating a piece of Rose – I guess that is the humor. Later she pretended to kick Louis where it hurts. The dance overall seemed very slow and it was obvious they wanted to accentuate her steps. Overall she managed to keep her “jiggly parts” in check and stick to the solid steps the dance is supposed to have.
The Judges: Carrie Ann said “it’s nice to see you DANCING” but didn’t think they needed the comedy. Len actually liked the comedy and the story and said overall it was good. Bruno called her an “enthusiastic eater” because her story was about food, seemed like an insult but she laughed. Bruno said could tell she really practiced the footwork but it did lack a bit of intensity because she was concentrating. He thought it was good though! Scores: CA – 7, L – 7, B – 7, Total: 21/30.
Erin Andrews with Maksim Chmerkovskiy hoped she could keep up with Max in the Samba. Max tried to teach Erin to keep her mind out of it and just let her body do what is natural. Erin was trying to be sexy, but I could tell she was over thinking certain moves and steps and the feeling just wasn’t there. Sure she hit all the steps, but it was kind of boring. I think she can do better if she stops thinking so much.
The Judges: Len told her she was going to get another 7 because she’s fed up with the tricks and doesn’t think it was a proper dance. Bruno thought it was exciting though and said she did get all the way through. Carrie Ann said she nailed it and gave her a standing cheer. Talk about differences of opinion! I’m with Len though. Scores: CA – 9, L – 7, B – 9, Total: 25/30.
Chad Ochocinco with Cheryl Burke had to do the Argentine Tango and Cheryl had to teach Chad how to lead. Cheryl said she wanted to be manhandled for this sexy dance. Chad looked a bit stiff when it started and a lot of the moves focused on Cheryl. I kept waiting for Chad to really break out and do something special, but he seemed to just be there to catch Cheryl as she did all her tricks.
The Judges: Bruno said it was “strong, powerful and demented“. Carrie Ann said he nailed it and she thought it was amazing. I guess I missed the amazing, dramatic part. Len said Chad grew tonight. Maybe I just didn’t see it!. Scores: CA – 8, L – 8, B – 8, Total: 24/30.
Nicole Scherzinger with Derek Hough hoped to get another 10 with their Samba. Nicole thought she’d be able to do Ricky Martin and Gloria Estefan but found out it was actually a very technical and hard dance. She whined a little about which side Derek wanted to dance on. Nicole’s Samba started out FAST and was definitely harder than the previous Samba’s. Nicole’s kept up with Derek the whole way and through all the tricks, but she did look like she was losing her energy in the last few steps.
The Judges: Carrie Ann said it was “ridiculous” and she couldn’t find anything to criticize her about except her facial expression. Len thought the difficulty and performance level was great but thought some important Samba moves were moved out. Len called it a “hodgepodge of sexy moves and gyrations“. Bruno said she’s got nothing to worry about, he liked it. Scores: CA – 9, L – 7, B – 10, Total: 26/30.
Pamela Anderson with Damian Whitewood were last tonight with another Argentine Tango. Pamela died her hair brunette (or wore a wig) for the occasion. Fighting to get out of the bottom two, Pamela wanted to impress with lifts and complex moves. Pamela looked like she was concentrating on the moves more tonight than her usual sex appeal, but this had her looking down a lot as she was trying to follow her feet.
The Judges: Len said it had a nice “smoldering intensity” but it wasn’t perfect. Bruno thought she played the character well but didn’t say much about her dancing. Carrie Ann said it was “unquestionably sexy” but thought the technique was lacking. Scores: CA – 7, L – 7, B – 8, Total: 22/30.
The Swing Dance Marathon
All couples were to do a Swing Dance side by side, with lifts allowed. Stars get eliminated one by one earning points based on where they land. Here’s how it all played out. All the couples came out in colorful costumes, each getting their own circle on the dance floor. Niecy looked liked she was having fun and Jake and Chelsie were the first eliminated (4 pts – Total: 25). Chad jumped over Cheryl while Niecy got eliminated (5 pts – Total: 26). Evan and Anna tried a crazy trick and Maks flipped Erin around. Evan was eliminated next (6 pts – Total: 27).
The remaining couples were able tomove about the dance floor more freely. Chad and Cheryl were the next eliminated (7 pts – Total: 31). I guess all the tricks were keeping Pam alive, but she was next eliminated (8 pts – Total: 30). It came down to Erin Vs Nicole and both girls were brining out the tricks. Erin was the next eliminated. (9 pts – Total: 34). This left Nicole and Derek as the winners of the marathon (10 pts – Total: 36).
Did you catch all that? Bruno said it was hard to put them in order because they all did fabulous.
