If you’ve been following my Dancing with the Stars articles all season long where I chronicled Evan Lysacek and his dance partner, Anna Trebunskaya, it ended somewhat bittersweet Tuesday night during the two-hour finale. One thing is certain Team Evanna literally gave it there all. However, it all started with a great deal of promise with a lavish Las Vegas style opening number to the song I’m So Excited by The Pointer Sisters that actually featured the celebrities of Season 10 and the pro dancers together. It was great seeing all of them again, well maybe except one whose only part in the dance number was holding a fan, which she managed not to do very well.
1st Half of the Competition – 3 Argentine Tangos
I’m not surprised all three couples chose the Argentine Tango, because Evan & Anna received their first “30” from that dance as well as Nicole & Derek. It was also a superb dance for Erin and Maks. I found Evan & Anna’s Argentine Tango better than the first time they danced it a few weeks back. However, the judges were allotted one score of “30”, “28” and “26” for each couple. Of course they judges went head over heels for Nicole’s and Derek’s dance.
Obviously they could do no wrong on this very special night. They were the first on the dance floor. Hello judges, Evan and Erin hadn’t danced yet. Thankfully, the judges gave Evan & Anna great feedback such as Bruno stating Evan was a real ladykiller out there. Len said not to try Anna’s lift at home, the split lift with her one foot resting on his shoulder. Carrie Ann said it best with “this Argentine Tango is true redemption after Monday night.” Now that the dances were finished Erin & Maks received a “26”, Evan & Anna “28” and Nicole & Derek “30”. Personally, I thought Evan & Anna deserved the “30” score. Erin & Maks were thus eliminated landing in third place.
The Return of the Other Celebrities and Dance Partners
One of the things I love about the Dancing with the Stars finale is seeing the other celebrities and their dance partners who had been eliminated weeks or months earlier. Buzz Aldrin literally beamed in with the Theme of Star Wars as the perfect soundtrack. His dance was difficult to watch, but the story made up for it. I don’t watch The Bachelor, so there must have been some crossing promotions going on with Jake’s dance I suppose. Who is this Vienna person? She was not one of the celebrities of Dancing with the Stars.
While I’m on the subject of cross promoting Kate Gosselin plugs in her new shows which I will be certain not to watch, thank you very much. Of course we had to suffer through another pre-rehearsal film where Kate is a bit kinder this time; however, she’s still as annoying and obnoxious as ever. Her brief encore dance to Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi was good at first then it got extremely weird. What on earth was her extreme close-up face doing on my TV screen? It made no sense whatsoever. Tom and Brooke were in fake laughter mode when Kate was up on some scaffolding and couldn’t come down. Lastly, Pamela Anderson’s dance I could have done without. She is too risqué for primetime with children still watching. I loved seeing Niecy back on the floor again. Besides Evan, she was my other favorite celebrity of the season.
Evan & Anna and Nicole & Derek – The Final Two
All season long I felt it would come down to these two and that’s what happened. Nicole & Derek danced a lively jive a la Tina Turner style to Proud Mary. They did a great job with the jive. It wasn’t the very best, but it was entertaining enough for the finale. What really made me furious was when Len stated very unequivocally that Nicole and Derek should be the winners. Excuse me? Evan & Anna had not even danced yet. Bruno told Nicole “it was the crowning glory of an amazing season.” It was OK Bruno. Ironically, they showed Evan & Anna in their dressing room before the commercial break. They seemed a bit tense and none too happy. When it was Evan & Anna’s turn on the dance floor they did a lively, technical and precise Quickstep.
It was obvious by this time the judges already had their winner in mind, but gave admirable compliments to Evan & Anna. I loved what Carrie Ann had to say “Nicole may be winning the scores, but he has been winning hearts.” Bruno was impressed with Evan’s new performance level and Len was inspired by his work ethic. Nicole received a “30” for her Jive and a total score of 115. A”28″ was given for Evan’s Quickstep and his total was 108. The Dancing with the Stars Mirror Ball Trophy Winner was awarded to Nicole & Derek. I was proud with everything Evan & Anna did. To me they are the true winners in every sense of the word. It was hard to overcome the odds when the show’s producers and judges were determined on their pre-selected winner, a washed-up, has-been, Beyonce wannabe (and will never be her in a million years) lame pop star diva who is a career dancer under her belt.
