Old wallpaper sample books that are not being used do not need to be thrown away, use them for art projects and create something beautiful. I love to reuse things that can be recycled. Go to any home decorating supply store and see if they have any old wallpaper sample books that they no longer want. I was lucky that a parent, to one of my students, who owned a home decorating shop brought in several books for us to use and I was able to store them easily in my supply closet.
Wallpaper sample books come in handy for all sorts of projects. Old wallpaper sample books can be used to make all kinds of things when you’d like to have a design pre-printed.
Wallpaper Picture Frames
Start with a picture that you’d like to frame, a drawing or a painting or even a photo of someone or something unique. Simply cut stripes of selected wallpaper into pieces of maybe 1&1/2 inches wide. Cut four pieces, 2 for the top and bottom to fit and two for the sides. Lay these around the outer edges and then staple or glue them onto the picture. This creates a matt for a frame or it can be the frame itself. To make it more sturdy simply attach the picture to a piece of cardboard, or an empty cereal box cut to fit the back. Some wallpaper book samples are so beautiful that you could easily make a framed picture out of one of the designs itself.
Cover a Small Box
If you’re like me I collect small boxes to save for art projects. Small boxes that include any size of shoe box, empty Kleenex boxes, or even gift boxes. Cut pieces of wallpaper pieces to fit all the sides of the box and attach by gluing these on. I’ve made Valentine holders and Easter baskets using small boxes covered in wallpaper and I took a coordinating piece of wallpaper and folded it several times to make a sturdy handle that I stapled on to the top.
Wallpaper Place Mats
Cut a piece of wallpaper the size of a place mat for your table and attach a cute border using glue or staples. A cute border can be some ruffled lace, wide ribbon or crape paper, these are just a couple of ideas, (I’m sure you are thinking of some of your own.) This place mat can be easily wiped off or thrown away after a party. Wallpaper books usually come in themed patterns so your imagination will run wild. The place mat can be easily personalized instead of making place cards. If you want to get real creative, cut a small piece of wallpaper and attach it to the bottom corner to slip the silver ware into.
