This is a craft concoction to make homemade washable spray paint that your kids can use outside. You most likely have all the supplies you need to make this paint right now (assuming you have a spray bottle) so why not whip up a batch and let your kids color their world!
To make homemade washable spray paint, you will need cornstarch, warm water, food coloring and a spray bottle. As for the cornstarch and food coloring, you can buy that in the baking aisle of any grocery store or Walmart. As for the spray bottle, you can find small spray bottles in the cosmetic department of any store that sells cosmetics or you can also find quart size spray bottles in the laundry section of any store that sells laundry supplies.
Most of the spray bottles used for laundry will have an adjustable spray which comes in handy. An adjustable spray tip allows you to spray a mist to cover large areas with paint or to spray a fine line to write words with the paint. The gardening section of any store might also carry spray bottles (ask for a plant mister). You can also use an old Windex bottle but just be sure you wash it good before using it.
To make the spray paint, start by mixing 1/4 cups of cornstarch with 1 cup of warm water and enough food coloring to get the shade you want (6 to 10 drops is usually enough). You should mix this in a large liquid measuring cup or any other container that has a spout for easy pouring. Or you can mix it in a bowl if you have a funnel to pour it into the spray bottle.
Once the paint is mixed, pour it into your spray bottle. Then make a separate bottle of paint for each color you are going to use. If you want unusual colors, you can mix colors together to make new colors. Or you can buy special colors in food coloring kits at a craft store that sells cake making supplies.
Now it’s time to use your homemade washable spray paint. Take the paint outside and spray away! You can spray on sidewalks, on brick buildings, on stone walls (but only on your own property!). Be sure to shake your spray paint often so it won’t get clogged. The artwork you create will easily wash away with a hose or the next rainfall.
You can also use your spray paint on sand to tint the sand. Take your homemade spray paint to the beach and write messages on the beach sand. Or build sand castles then color them by spraying them with your paint. If you live near snow, you can make a rainbow snowman! Just build your snowman then spray rainbow colors all over him. The spray will freeze and the colors will last as long as the snowman lasts. You will have a blast with this homemade washable spray paint!
