by itchyfish

Even if you haven’t heard of Courtney Love before reading this article, you may find yourself being amazed how she survived her childhood. For those of you who are fans of Courtney Love, take a trip through her life from childhood to stardom.

Courtney Love’s Two Dads

I decided to lead in with Courtney’s two dads because this starts the spiral effect in her life. Of course, her mom, Linda, played a role in Courtney’s anger problems. By using Courtney’s two dads, you will see how Linda played a role in Courtney’s life.

Hank Harrison

Due to Hank Harrison being Courtney Love’s birth father and the first marriage of Linda, Courtney appeared on the back of the Grateful Dead album, AOXOMOXOA, at the age of 5. With the drugs and lifestyle Hank Harrison had, the marriage to Linda didn’t last for very long.

During this marriage, Courtney Love appeared in the San Francisco newspaper as Child X. Courtney was dubbed Child X by the newspaper because of the influence her grandparents had in the area.

Frank Rodriguez

After the marriage to Hank Harrison ended, Linda married Frank Rodriguez. Frank adopted Courtney Love. Frank and Linda had two daughters. During her childhood as Frank’s daughter, Courtney felt Frank was the only person who was ever nice to her.

However, during the marriage to Frank, Linda had became a therapist. During this time she was practicing therapy on her children, Linda had Courtney and her sisters use red batons to hit each other to help release their anger. Not long after this, Frank and Linda’s marriage ended.

Hank, Frank, and Linda leads to the Anger Behind the Musician segment that follows. There is more about Frank and Courtney’s relationship in the next section.

Courtney Love – The Anger Behind The Musician

Courtney Love has built a lot of anger up because of the life she was born into and things that happened to her throughout her childhood and adult life. Through her anger she has became one of the female legends in the music world.

Her anger about her parents divorcing led Courtney to feel as if no one loved her or wanted her. Due to her mom, Linda, marrying and divorcing Frank Rodriguez, Courtney began to act out. Since Linda couldn’t handle Courtney any longer because of her anger issues, Courtney was sent back to Frank to raise her. When Courtney hit her teenage years, her rebellion lead to more problems.

At this point Frank had to turn her over to the child welfare system because he could no longer be around her due to her anger issues. This is when Courtney’s life took the turn for the worse.

Now enters the next segment Courtney Love: Drugs, Stripping, and Over Spending.

Courtney Love: Drugs, Stripping, and Over Spending

After trying cocaine, Courtney found herself in a whole new world. By trying cocaine, Love met Jennifer Finch. Realizing Jennifer Finch and she had a lot in common, this took Courtney further into the drug world.

Courtney had found her new found shopping spree habit when she was emancipated from her parents. Once she was emancipated from her parents, Courtney started receiving her monthly installments from her inheritance from her grandparents.

Her spending sprees included buying things she didn’t need, crashing parties and breaking items in the person’s home and paying for damages, and buying drugs. At one point she was finding ways to lie to her grandparents to get more money than her monthly allowance from her inheritance.

Another thing Courtney found herself into was stripping at night clubs in the United States. Courtney then moved to England where she had stripped for a period in their night clubs. While in England, Courtney decided it was time to change her last name to Love after deciding the patrons of the clubs loved her. Hence, Courtney Love was born.

Bands in Courtney Love’s Music Career

Faith No More

Courtney Love was the lead singer for Faith No More. During her stint with the Faith No More at age 18, Courtney was still fighting her demons of drugs and feeling abandoned.

With these demons haunting her she felt she could no longer go on with Faith No More. The feeling was mutual since they wanted to let her go because Faith No More wanted to go into a different direction with a male lead singer.

Baby Dolls

After leaving Faith No More, Courtney decided she wanted to start an all girls band. With her new found friend, Jennifer Finch as guitarist, Courtney found another gal pal, Kathy Bjelland on bass, the trio was the beginning of making of the Baby Dolls.

After a short time, Courtney fill back into her drugs and spending habits while playing and singing with Baby Dolls. Baby Dolls broke up in 1985 because of Courtney coming into practice stoned and not wanting to practice. This habit led to the all girl band, Baby Dolls, arguing as well.

Hole

During the 90’s, Courtney Love found her a home with the band Hole. Even though the band had disbanded for a short time in the 90’s, they reemerged even with the death of Love’s husband Cobain and bassist Kristen Pfaff.

The Men in Courtney Love’s Life

Outside of her real and adoptive father, Courtney Love has had countless men in and out of her life. This is a look at the men in Courtney Love’s life. Fast forward to the year she married Kurt Cobain.

Courtney Love was married to Kurt Cobain, guitarist of Nirvana. Kurt Cobain died when “he committed suicide with a shotgun” (1) and “cocaine” (2). Feeling sad by Kurt’s dead, many felt she would self destruct. She did make it into the world of acting after Kurt’s death.

However, she did find her way back into the drug world with the use of cocaine. When Courtney started using cocaine again, she was committed into BelleView for her drug addiction. With the help of the staff at BeleView Courtney found her way into a clean and sober life.

ReEnter Hole Reunion and Tour

Hole Reunion and Tour

When Love decided to move towards her acting career in 1995, Hole regrouped to make an album. Hole’s album didn’t appear until late 1998. In 2002, Courtney love ended Hole. Even though Courtney released a solo album in 2004, in 2006 and 2007 Courtney started writing songs for an album, Nobody’s Daughter. With the naming Nobody’s Daughter being a Hole album, this revived the group to start a tour in 2010.
