If you recently started printing coupons on the internet or reading deal saving web sites or forums or blogs on how to slash your grocery budget and learning how to get the best coupon deals, then you inevitably run across acronyms here and there, some of which are unfamiliar territory. Some acronyms are contextual and you can figure them out, others you end up having to ask someone on the internet, or do some research and digging to figure it out. The following list of coupon world acronyms will come in very handy as you start to read coupon blogs and coupon forums and matching coupon sales.
AC = After Coupon. This usually refers to the final cost of the item after using a coupon.
ACTUALS = The actual item as opposed to a coupon for it (refers to a physical item from your shopped for merchandise)
ADDIE = Address aldo sometimes ADDY is used
AR = After Rebate; This usually refers to the final cost of the item after aubmitting your paperwork and receiving your rebate.
BLINKIES – These are coupons that are found in the store and dispensed near product, usually from blinking box. The actual box is a small square plastic black box and generally has a red blinking light.
BOGO or B1G1F = Buy one get one free. BOGO is a term often used in promotions with store advertisements, and occasionally a manufacturer puts out a coupon that is a buy one get one free item too.
CAT or Catalina = coupon dispensed at register after purchase, usually these are good for money off your next shopping order. Catalina refers to the company that generally organizes and runs this particular marketing campaign. An example of a Catalina may be buy 4 boxes of Brand X cereal and receive a coupon for $3 off your next shopping order. The coupon is an actual manufacturer’s coupon and generally has a picture of the store logo on it.
CO = cents off coupon or cash off coupon if the cents amount to more than $1
CRT = Cash register tape. CRT is used to submit rebates.
DB = database; some web sites keep databases of coupons from the internet and from printed advertising sources, so that if a coupon is being matched up to a store sale, a source can be named as to where to find that coupon.
DCRT = Dated cash register tape
DCRTC = Dated cash register tape with the price circled
DND = Do Not Double (the coupon is not supposed to be doubled)
ECB – CVS Extra Care Bucks earned for purchases
ENVIE = Envelope
EPOP = Each pay own postage (trading term)
ESR = EasySaver Rebate (Walgreens Monthy Rebate)
EXP= Expiration Date
FAR = Free After Rebate
FREE ITEM COUPON = A coupon that allows you to get the product completely free
FSOT = For Sale or Trade
GDA = Good Deal Alert
GG = Grocery Game (a coupon match up web site)
HBA = The health and beauty aid section in the grocery store
HDA = Hot Deal Alert
HL = Have list (a coupon trading term)
HT or HGT = Hang tags for refunds or coupons hanging on a product
HTH = Hope that helps (refers to a internet poster answering a question)
ISO = In Search Of (generally refers to an internet poster expressing their wish list for a coupon or rebate form)
IVC = Walgreen’s Instant Value Coupon ( Found in the monthy EasySaver Catalog generally located in the front of the walgreens store)
IP = Internet Printable
MIR = Mail In Rebate
NAZ = Name, address, zip code
NED = No expiration date
OAS = a coupon that is good on one purchase, any size OAS is of significance becauyse it means a coupon can even be used for a trial size of the item, which may yield a totally free item.
OOP = Out of Pocket
OOS = Out of Stock
OP = Original Poster; refers to the Author of an internet thread

P&G = Proctor & Gamble Sunday supplement coupons, these are found in the sunday newspaper with the advertising flyers for various stores.
PEELIE = coupon that you peel off the package to use for instant savings. Peelies are intended to be used at the point of purchase.
PM = Private Message, referring to an internet message send privately
POP = Proof of purchase. Generally a POP is needed when submitting a rebate.
PP = purchase price
Q or QUALIFIER = The POP required for a refund offer that is physically taken from that package A rebate may require a UPC, a cash register receipt, etc.
RC = Rain Check. Smart coupon users always ask for a rain check of any item the store has run out of so they can take advantage of the sale the following week.
RP = Red Plum Sunday Supplement Coupons, these are found in the sunday newspaper with the advertising flyers for various stores.
RR = Register Rewards (these are from Walgreens)
SD = Store Display
SF = Store form
SMP = Specially Marked Packages
SS = Smart Source or Sunday Supplement coupons
TEAR PAD = A pad of refund forms or coupons found hanging from a store shelf or display
TMF = Try Me Free
TRU=Toys R Us
Wally World= Walmart
WINE TAG = coupon, usually for $ off any meat, cheese or produce.
WSL =while supplies last usually no rainchecks issued
WT = wine tag
WYB = When You Buy
YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary= your success of the attempted coupon usage may vary at your store depending on store rules or cashier’s attitude. YMMV usually refers to subjective interpretation of a coupon match up with a sale.
One of the great things about coupon shopping is not only that you can save literally thousands of dollars of year, you can help others with your coupon deals. Many couponers are generous and share their free and low cost items with neighbors, friends, family, food shelves, churches and other non profit orgnaizations. It is the feeling of being able to not only help your family but to help others that helps fuel the time and energy needed to be a serious coupon user.
