Country Clubs in Hawaii differ in their locations, history and facilities. On the Island of Oahu, some prestigious clubs include Waialae, Honolulu and Oahu Country Clubs.
Waialae Country Club:
The Waialae Country Club, located east of the slopes of Diamond Head State Monument, opened in 1927 as a public facility. Now, an exclusive club, the property of the Club resides near the luxurious hotel, Kahala Hotel, as well as next to the prime real estate property, Black Point. Since changing to a private club in 1941, guests must join club members to access the 18-hole golf course, tennis courts or swimming pool. The Club’s restaurants and several banquet rooms offer privacy and delicious local cuisine. The Club hosts the PGA Tour Sony Open in January-February every year. The golf course exhibits lush Bermuda grass with palm trees and other fragrant plants bordering the site. The second and seventh holes border the shoreline of Maunalua Bay and allow the golfers to breath in the ocean air.
Honolulu Country Club:
Honolulu Country Club is a private club located in the Salt Lake, suburban, neighborhood in the remnants of a volcanic crater, but provides services to the public for special events like banquets, meetings, luaus, and weddings. The Club opened in 1977 with the removal of Salt Lake on the site. Ponds from the original lake populate the grounds. The Club features an 18-hole golf course, a swimming pool, tennis courts, two restaurants and a snack shop for private members. The Clubhouse brings together Hawaiian koa and teakwood in the walls and ceiling. The extravagant wood gives a rich presence to the milieu.
Oahu Country Club:
Located in Nuuanu Valley, the Oahu Country Club opened its doors in 1905 as a private club. Koa paneling lines the walls in the Clubhouse. The Club houses a sizeable collection of Hawaiian art that gives sophistication to the setting. An 18-hole championship golf course, a fitness center, a heated swimming pool and three restaurants reside in the establishment. The Club hosts the annual Manoa Cup Championship for amateur golfers. Dining in the Clubhouse allows members to relax and view the Nuuanu Valley rainforest. Residing next to the Koolau range, the setting remains cooler than other Oahu country clubs.
Members enjoy the island style ambience in open-air environments of these Country Clubs on the island of Oahu. These settings capture the bygone years of elegance, gentility and tradition.
