If you’re married or seriously dating and are planning to buy an iPad, you have two options: buy two iPads or hide your iPad from your spouse – but sharing is completely out of the question. Following are several reasons you should absolutely never let your spouse use your iPad.
Restoring your personal setting sucks
When I first bought my iPad, I made the worst mistake possible – I told my wife about it. My wife isn’t that much of a techie, but for some reason, she totally connected with the iPad. My wife will spend hours using my iPad and while this isn’t a major problem, I noticed a very annoying trend – Every time my wife returns my iPad, I have to restore all of my settings. This might make me sound petty, but having to re-log in to Facebook, YouTube, Yahoo Mail, and all of my favorite games and apps can be a huge headache – especially when typing on the iPad’s inbuilt keyboard.
You’ll have to do more maintenance
If you’ve ever had to share a gadget with someone – who’s not the owner of said gadget – you’ll always be forced to be the maintenance man/woman. When sharing a gadget with someone that didn’t pay for it, you’ll both use the gadget the same, but only one of you will care about the gadget’s welfare. Letting my wife use the iPad usually leads to more fingerprints on my iPad and the annoying discovery of a drained iPad battery when I try to power it up at work.
Your iPad won’t be there when you need it
One of the biggest problems with sharing your iPad with your spouse is… well… you’ll be “sharing” your iPad. Sharing an iPad only opens up the possibility that the iPad won’t be there when you are in the mood to use it. There really are no benefits to sharing a device you’ve paid upwards of $500 to own, only to not have it when you need it. Even worse is the fact that you’ll look like a jerk when you let your spouse know that it’s your turn to play with the toy.
They’ll get used to it
Some devices make you wonder what life was like without them, and the iPad is definitely one of those gadgets. If you make the mistake of letting your spouse use your iPad; once their fingers touch this magical device – they’ll become instant iPad addicts. I committed the ultimate sin of letting my wife take my iPad to work with her and now guess who’ll be using the iPad at work today – and who won’t.
The iPad can really kill the romance
I’m not sure to put this in a politically correct fashion, but your spouse’s iPad addiction can put a damper on other fun activities. I can’t count the nights that I’ve been willing to do the deed only to find my wife with an iPad glued to her face. Let me tell you, there is absolutely no way to pull an iPad from your spouse’s firm grip while leaving them in the mood to “woo-hoo.”
