Vegan-friendly dining is often difficult to find, but good vegan cuisine is truly a rare gem amongst the restaurant industry. This is what makes City, O’ City in Denver, Colorado a true gem and a must try dining experience when visiting or spending a day in the Mile High City. Located in the heart of Capitol Hill and just steps from the Denver Art Museum and the Colorado State Capitol Building, City, O’ City is vegan and vegetarian dining at it’s finest, while retaining a casual atmosphere.
City, O’ City specializes in vegan and vegetarian fare that even the most meat loving of people will enjoy, and their artistic and dimly lit atmosphere evokes feelings of a 1960’s beatnik cafe. They have a full bar with a wide selection of drinks, a miniature bakery offering a selection of pastries and desserts, and an eclectic menu with some very creative concoctions. My personal favorite, the buffalo seitan wrap with vegan ranch dressing and french fries is a truly delicious sandwich that looks and tastes just like chicken. A variety of unique pizzas grace the menu at City, ‘O City, including one pie known as the Urban Cowgirl which consists of chiptole marinara, pineapple, green peppers, cilantro, onion rings, and mozzarella cheese. All of their pizzas can be made vegan or vegetarian.
If you are in need of some protein or are seeking to please a meat eater in the group, City, ‘O City offers seitan sausage, seitan pepperoni, tempeh bacon, barbecued tofu, and cage free eggs for their pizzas or entrees. The staff are all familiar with the vegetarian and began lifestyle and are very knowledgeable about the menu, making it easy for them to assist you with any special requests or dietary restrictions.
The walls at City, ‘O City are covered in original artwork from local artists, many of which are for purchase so the decor is ever changing. There are tables with oversized stools or booths available for parties, or you can sit directly at the bar if you prefer. The restaurant offers free wireless internet, so patrons are often seen sipping coffee and browsing the internet while waiting for their food. The entire atmosphere is very relaxed, and unlike the nearby coffee shop, Paris on the Platte, smoking is not allowed in the restaurant.
Whether you are a college student at the nearby Auroria campus or an out of towner looking to try something new, City, ‘O City is a very unique cafe with great food and a great atmosphere. The pricing is very affordable, and the portions are large enough to fill you up.
