Since I reside in Colorado, I can only speak of my most recent experiences there.
Northern Hills Christian Church. Calvary Chapel Brighton, Broomfield, and Westminster (a.k.a.) Legacy Christian Fellowship. Cornerstone. Crossroads. Metro. Thorn Creek. The Orchard Church. Elmwood Baptist.
Imagine being new in town, for whatever reason, and you’re looking for a fellowship to connect to.
Heads up: Unless you were born here or have family connections to an area church, you’re in for the shopping experience of a lifetime.
In 2006, my family and I moved to Denver because God led us here for one purpose: establish a Christian movie studio system where His Word was the most valuable attachment.
Coming from a warm and united fellowship in California, we understood that no church was perfect. In fact, most are far from it.
But the over-the-top stage shows most of these churches would put on, throwing a Bible reading in like a last-second desert at Applebee’s, was shameful, or rather, is.
We did spend a year or two at some of them, but something unrelated to the Word always gave us enough of a reason to leave. Of the ones we attended, the one we had the best experience at was Legacy Christian Fellowship. Pastor Lonnie Trujillo is one of the best Bible teachers in the state. He’s a volunteer chaplain with the Denver Police Department, and had worked on staff at Crossroads Church during the 1990’s.
Without getting into specifics, we found ourselves bouncing from one fellowship to the next. Now, I am a pastor, ordained since 2009.
It is impossible to tell religious leaders to repent unless there is video of them doing some illegal act, forcing their resignation. But it is possible to do reviews of their web sites, especially when, if you’re new in town, the average search engine and web site link is the only way one can browse possible fellowships.
Let’s assume your family will have no problems whatsoever plugging into a given fellowship. What do we need to find one?
1. Location…Where is it and is it worth the commute?
2. Beliefs…Everyone has micro interpretation differences.
3. Spirit-filled…this cannot be simulated by performing the Hillsong or Maranatha Music library.
4. Pastor(s) committed to the Great Commission, fostering a close-knit family discipleship and nurturing spiritual gifts.
Here’s the first one we’re going to review…Oh, yeah, didn’t I mention? This will be an Ongoing Review.
The home page is up, but none of its other click-able functions are working. Its lone click reveals either a blank calendar, or the announcement of a pool party for June 28…but what year? This site has been known to have announcements that were a year expired, including “Take Your Parent Fishing: Coming 2009”. A phone number for a “prayer line” is listed.
Out of answers, I consulted with Dex…you’ve seen the TV ads…Dex Knows.
One-half of 5 Crosses.
(If you’re a web master seeking to serve the Lord in the Downtown Brighton, Colorado area, this might just be the right church for you.)
